    Information on original incident:
On April 16, 2001 at approx. 9:11 AM, the Menlo Park Police Department was dispatched to the area of Ravenswood Avenue and El Camino Real on a report of a major injury collision involving a pedestrian. The first police units on the scene reported that two vehicles and a pedestrian were involved in the collision. Ravenswood Avenue was closed to thru traffic at El Camino for approximately six hours.

A 1996 Subaru was traveling Norhtbound on El Camino Real making a right turn onto Eastbound Ravenswood Ave when it collided with a 2001 BMW traveling Eastbound on Menlo Avenue crossing El Camino Real. The Subaru was driven by 38 year old Erik Moller of Menlo Park. The BMW was driven by 41 year old David Berger of Palo Alto.

A pedestrian, a 46 year old male identified as Jeffry Glenn Ireland of South San Francisco, was struck by one of the two vehicles as he was crossing Ravenswood Ave on his way to work. Mr. Ireland was trapped under the BMW until several citizens freed him. The pedestrian was taken to Stanford E.R. with major injuries to his torso. He was listed in critical condition and remained in the intensive care unit. The driver of the BMW, Mr. Berger, was also taken to Stanford E.R. due to an unknown medical problem.  Mr. Berger may have suffered a seizure just prior to the collision.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Menlo Park Police Traffic Unit. Anyone who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact the MPPD trafiic unit.
