Investigation has revealed the following information regarding the shooting which occurred on 5/31 at 10:30 P.M. at 912 Timothy Lane.

Victim Smith and Suspect Murphy were in the kitchen of the home at 912 Timothy Lane with the home's renter Roy Maloney, 26 years. They had reportedly been ingesting crystal methamphetamine for two days and were in the process of preparing more which involves a "cooking" process on the stove, when an argument occurred. Suspect Murphy obtained a 9mm semi-automatic handgun that was kept in the house and ordered (V) Smith to leave. A struggle ensued and Smith was shot once in the back. Both Smith and Murphy ran out the front door of the house, Smith collapsing in the front yard of 911 Timothy Lane.

Murphy, ran a distance then hid in some bushes until he could call a friend on a cell phone to pick him up. Detectives were able to locate a home address in San Mateo where he was eventually arrested by San Mateo P.D. Murphy has been booked into the San Mateo County Main Jail in Redwood City on charges of attempted murder. Smith is out of surgery and no longer in danger. The weapon has not yet been recovered. All involved parties have prior narcotic records.
