SHOOTING - SUSPECT IN CUSTODY From: Sergeant Terri Molakides, Media Relations Direct Telephone Extension: (650) 858-3386 Office Hours, Mon-Thur. 7:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. E-mail: twmolakides@menlopark.org
On 06/06/00 at 03:13 A.M., Menlo Park Police Communications Center received several 9-1-1- calls reporting an argument and possible gunshots from 1431 Plumas Avenue in the Belle Haven Neighborhood of Menlo Park. Officers responded and found victim Jennifer Anthony in the house suffering from an injury caused by a bullet wound to her cheek. Also in the home was the suspect Richard Kelly. Details are not clear at this time, due to the medical condition of the victim, but preliminarily we believe the following occurred. The two parties, who are roommates, became involved in an argument of unknown nature, in the hallway of the house. During the altercation, Kelly came into possession of a revolver, and shot Anthony once in the face where the bullet lodged in her cheekbone. The gun has since been recovered. While Anthony does not have life threatening injuries, it is unknown at this time what type of permanent injuries she will have. She is currently recovering at Stanford Medical Center. Kelly was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Main Jail for attempted murder. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the motive of this shooting and any information regarding this crime would be appreciated. Please contact Detectives Edward Estrada or Eric Cowans at 650-858-3300. #### |
