Menlo Park Police Chief Scott S.G. Vermeer is pleased to announce the promotions of two department members, Sergeant Christopher W. Boyd to Patrol Commander and Officer Andrew M. Kline to Sergeant.

The media is invited to the official ceremony that will take place July 9, 2001 at the Menlo Park Police Department at 9:00 A.M.

Chris Boyd began his career with the Menlo Park Police Department in 1990 when he was hired as a police officer. As a police officer he was assigned to a street drug task force that was recognized nationally and attained expert status in court testimony in street narcotics. In 1993 he was promoted to Sergeant. As a sergeant he has supervised patrol, code enforcement and investigations. Commander Boyd holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from the College of Notre Dame and was a graduate of the 197th class of the F.B.I. National Academy. Commander Boyd and his wife Marci enjoy camping with their two golden retrievers.

Sergeant Kline was born in Palo Alto and raised in Menlo Park attending Ravenswood High School in East Palo Alto as part of a voluntary desegregation program. Sergeant Kline came to us in 1982 after starting his career with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office as a reserve deputy sheriff. Sergeant Kline has worked as a field training officer, traffic officer, detective, hostage negotiator and range instructor. Kline has taught drug and alcohol awareness in local grammar schools and is involved in the development of Neighborhood Watch Programs. Sergeant Kline lives locally with his wife Rebecca, who is a Palo Alto Police Officer.

Photographs are available of both Commander Boyd and Sergeant Kline.
