E-mail: prkunkel@menlopark.org Media Contact: Sergeant Terri Molakides, Media Relations Telephone: (650) 858-3386 E-mail: twmolakides@menlopark.org Suspect description: On August 5, 2001 at 9:23 PM the Menlo Park Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Carlton Ave. regarding an incident involving several traffic collisions and a shooting. A vehicle traveling North on Newbridge St. veered off of the road and hit a pedestrian, before hitting a house. Several shots were then fired inside the vehicle. The vehicle then got back on the road, and drove West down Carlton Ave. at a high rate of speed. While driving West on Carlton Ave. the vehicle collided with a parked vehicle, then another vehicle that was backing out of a residential driveway, and finally came to stop after hitting a tree. The suspect driver fled by running East on Carlton Ave. The victim, who was shot inside the vehicle several times, managed to run from the vehicle and summoned help. The victim was rushed to Stanford Hospital for surgery. The victim in this case has yet to be identified, and the motive at this point is unknown. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties, approximately 5-08 to 5-10 with short black hair, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. A thorough search of the area was done for the suspect by the Menlo Park Police, who were assisted by the East Palo Alto Police, the Atherton Police, and the Palo Alto Police, but the suspect was not found.
