E-mail: prkunkel@menlopark.org The Menlo Park Police Department has uncovered additional information regarding the shooting that occurred in the 1100 block of Carlton Ave. on August 4, 2001. After a lengthy hospital stay for several gun shot wounds received during the attack, the victim in this case, Bernardino Parra, was recently able to talk to the police. MPPD investigators had initially speculated that the incident was a possible car jacking, but until today many of the circumstances were unclear. Today the victim confirmed that he was carjacked at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Quality Market at 1205 Willow Rd. in Menlo Park. The suspect approached the victim as he sat in his vehicle, and had him move from the driver seat to the passenger seat of the vehicle. The suspect then drove away with the victim still in the passenger seat. The victim was then shot by the suspect several times as he struggled with him for the gun. This struggle ensued while the suspect was driving. While driving the vehicle, the suspect hit a pedestrian, a house, a parked vehicle, a vehicle backing out of a driveway, and finally stopped after hitting a tree. The suspect fled eastbound on foot in the 1100 block of Carlton Ave. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, approximately twenty years old, 5-07, 170 lbs. with light colored eyes, a thin goatee, dark shoulder length hair, and a medium to dark complexion. This man should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone recognizing this man, or anyone with any information on this case is asked to call Detective Paul Kunkel at (650) 858-3305. Suspect sketch available in the Communications Center at Menlo Park P.D. ### |
