GLENCOE (1867)
The steamship GLENCOE (Official No. 58,851) was built under Lloyd's Register of Shipping Special Survey by Backhouse, Middlesbrough, and was launched in August 1867. 185 / 299 / 280 tons (net / gross / under deck); 144.7 x 22 x 13.2 feet (length x breadth x depth of hold); 3 masts (schooner rigged), 1 deck, raised quarter deck 20 tons; 3 bulkheads; double bottom 71 3/4 ft long; screw propulsion. Her engines are described in the annual volumes of Lloyd's Register for 1867/68 through 1881/82 as 60 hp (1867); 180 hp (1871); direct action, 2 cylinders, 32 1/2" - 24", 65 hp, by Blair & Co Ltd, Stockton (1874); inverse, 2 cylinder, 32 1/2"- 24", 65 hp, by Blair & Co (1876); and compound inverse, 2 cylinder, 19" & 36" -24", 50 hp, by Blair & Co (1879).
