An Interview from Australian TV Hits
Q: How did you get into acting?
Kirsten: When I was three, everyone asked my mom if I was an actress or
model, so I started modelling and really enjoyed it.
Q: When you were three?
K: It's true! And then I did commercials and I really enjoyed those too!
Q: When did you stop modelling?
K: When I was six!
Q: Do you hang out with kids from school now?
K: Yeah, all my friends are from school, except one is in the business.
She was in "A Little Princess".
Q: Your friends are jealous that you kissed Brad in "Interview With
The Vampire ", but you didn't enjoy it!
K: Yeah, Brad Pitt, Brad Pitt, Brad Pitt, that's all they care about.
But let's pretend you're ten and you have to kiss a thirty-one-year-old.
How would you feel? It's like kissing your friend?
Q: Is there anyone you'd like to kiss?
K: I don't know. I'm not worried about that right now. All boys are stuff-ups!
They are! They think os much of themselves! The boys in my class have the
biggest egos in the world!
Q: Are you happy with your life now?
K: I'm happy with what I'm doing. I'm so happy I did Claudia (Her character
in " Interview With The Vampire ") and I was so lucky to get
that because a lot of women would kill for a role like that.
Q: How was it meeting Robin Williams on the set of "Jumanji"?
K: I met him and he was all dressed up. He was really funny. Working with
him was very difficult because he never knew his lines and, you know! (Laughs)
No I'm just joking. He was a lot of fun to work with and, well, if he improvises
you just have to go along with him!
Q: Is there an actress you admire?
K: Jodie Foster. I met her on the set of " Jumanji " and "Interview"
and at the MTV Awards. I didn't get to talk to her.
Q: Is it difficult being a child actor?
K: Yeah, it's like having two jobs. Especially on the set when they say
that Robin (Williams) and Bonnie (Hunt, from " Jumanji ") can
go back to their trailers and I have to do schoolwork, so yeah, it's hard.
But I'm not worried. I want to act for the rest of my life and write and
direct.
Q: Which actors would you like to work with?
K: I really like Leonardo DiCaprio. I'd love to work with Tom Hanks and
Gary Sinise and the guy who played Bubba in "Forrest Gump", I
loved him. What's his name? And um...Elijah Wood's a good actor, I'd like
to work with him.
Q: Did you keep anything from the "Jumanji" set?
K: I kept some pieces from the big chandelier that we hung on in the water
scene. A lot of crystal things. I have a "Jumanji" drum and a
little elephant they gave me too.
Q: What's difficult about working with special effects?
K: Looking at things that aren't there. That's really hard 'cause you're
staring at a piece of tape and you have to pretend it's a lion, but you
have to use your imagination. But that's not hard, it was a challenge.
Q: Did you do your own stunts in the water scene?
K: Yeah, the wave tank was so hard! We spent two weeks in it and I had
to do all my own stunts. It was cold and dirty and we had to eat our lunch
in there and there was like, alligators floating around in it, well, tame
ones. It was just really hard to play, we'd get all pruney and everything.
And the wetsuits we had to wear were so itchy and I got so many rashes
from it.
Q: What was the best part of filming " Jumanji "?
K: The best part of " Jumanji " was every day. We had so much
fun every day. Everyone would muck around and we'd all laugh so hard.
Q: Are you spoilt when you're on set?
K: On "Vampire" I was spoiled. Whoa, like really spoiled. Sometimes
the caterers would have the grossest food so they'd send for McDonald's
for us every day! Anytime we wanted anything, right away. I got flowers
and everything.
Q: What would you do if you weren't acting?
K: If I hadn't been an actress I'd probably be an artist. My mom was in
art design but someone stole her designs (huh?). I also want to go to Uni
and study film.
Q: When are you going to start dating?
K: Everyone in my class dates. They're allowed but I'm not gonna be allowed
to until I'm fifteen. That's what mom said.
Q: What makes you really angry?
K: My brother! (Laughs) No, maths makes me unhappy. I hate maths and I
dislike my teacher strongly!
Q: Are you aware of all the money you're earning?
K: No, that all goes into my trust fund for college and a car and all that.
Q: What would you like to buy with the money?
K: Oh, I love to ride horses. I love to ride. I want a horse of my own,
a black one and I'll name it Claudia 'cause it (" Vampire ")
was my first film.
