![]() |
Introduction The demands for literacy are greater than ever before in the history of mankind. Newspapers, cheap and readily available, provide the most up to date information on events as they happen. There is something for everyone, which means it can be a highly motivating source for those learning to read, for developing reading skills, and above all for those people, young and old, who are learning English as a second language. |
STUDENTS' QUEST Students must first become familiar with the unique writing style of newspaper journalism. The headline is a compact eye-catching summary of the story in which something usually happens. Then the lead will summarise the story in a few lines. The newspaper is helpful for building vocabulary. One such story offers many language opportunities. Students should now do the background reading necessary to complete this Quest. 1) The Style 2) The Headline 3) Something happened 4) The Lead 5) Vocabulary building 6) Common news story 7) "Storm" Vocabulary 8) WebQuest-Understanding Newspapers |
