For those of you who don't know, Sailor Moon is the leader of the Sailor Senshi, and was once Princess Serenity of the Moon. That was a thousand years ago, though, wayyy back in the Silver Millennium. Her mother, Queen Serenity, was worried that bad guys might get her, so she called upon each planet in the Solar System (except Earth) to send a Guardian. So there we have the Senshi.
In modern times, Serena is a student at Juuban (Crossroads) Junior High when the series opens. Luna, one-time advisor to Queen Serenity and talking cat extraordinaire, is charged with the mission of finding the Sailor Senshi and the Moon Princess. Serena is who she finds. Now we all love Serena, but no one can say she isn't whiny and lazy and, well... a bit of an airhead.
Still, while Serena *can* be all of those things, she can also be very strong and brave. That's a good thing, because in the future she will be Neo-Queen Serenity of Crystal Tokyo, mother of Chibi-Usa (Rini) and wife to Darien (King Endymion)!
Serena is one of those girls I've always envied: she is almost always cheerful, never has anything bad to say about anyone and somehow never loses her positive outlook on life. She holds the Inner Senshi together with her love and strength, and on more than one occasion steps up to bat and *doesn't* strike out. Mighty Casey could learn a thing or two from this girl.
A little bit boy-crazy, she instantly fell in love with Tuxedo Mask, the alter-ego of super-jerk Darien Chiba. Luckily Darien started being nicer (for a little while, anyway), and they figured out that Serena is Sailor Moon and Darien is Tuxedo Mask, and they were in love with one another in the past. I have a very sweet picture of them as the happy royal couple in Crystal Tokyo to the left.
