Brief Biography
Prof. Mrityunjoy Chakraborty was born at Calcutta, India in 1961. He obtained Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication Engg. from the Jadavpur University, Calcutta in 1983. Subsequently, he obtained M. Tech. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technologies (IIT) at Kanpur and New Delhi in 1985 and 1994 respectively. During 1986-87, he was a member of the teaching faculty at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and since 1994, he has been a faculty member at the IIT, Kharagpur, where he currently holds the position of a full professor in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engg.

Prof. Chakraborty has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part-I during 2004-2005 and aslo during 2006-2007, is a guest editor of a special issue of the EURASIP JASP on Distributed Space Time Processing and has served technical committees of many top ranking conferences in signal processing. He has held many visiting positions in universities and research institutions all over the world. His research interests are primarily in the area of Digital and Adaptive Signal Processing (DSP, ADSP), including VLSI signal processing, DSP architecture optimization, analysis and implementation of adaptive filters and application of signal processing techniques to wireless communications. Some of the current issues investigated by him in this context include :
  • Development of architectures for DSP and ADSP algorithms which are efficient in terms of power and/or area and/or throughput.
  • Usage of block floating point data representation for efficient implementation of DSP and ADSP algorithms.
  • Fast algorithms for mobile localization.
  • Adaptive delay estimation.
Prof. Chakraborty has guided several doctoral and also masters’ theses on the above topics and is consulted by government as well as private agencies. He is a fellow of the IETE (India) and a Senior Member (IEEE).
