Description:
     This course offers a historical and cultural study of World History. An emphasis will be placed on geographic influences , with an increased attention on the development and evolution of the nation-state. The theme of change with regard to scientific and technological advancements will be highlighted. Attention will also be focused  upon the connections between the people and events of the twentieth century. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of artifacts and primary and secondary sources to uncover and understand specific historic events and issues.
Course Objectives:

•   to instruct and expose students to the widest panorama of World history, from 1500 AD to the present
•   to provide examples of how geography relates to the study of world history.
•   to assist students in passing the Standards of Learning World History exam.

First Semester - First Quarter
I.     Introduction to Geography Skills and Review of World History I
II.     Emergence of Modern Nations – Chapters 14 - 19
A.     Renaissance and Scientific Revolution
B.     Strong Monarchies of Europe
C.     Development of England’s limited monarchy and colonies
D.     French Revolution and Napoleon
Second Quarter
III. Industrialization , Reform, Authoritarian Regimes – Chapters 20 - 26
A.     The Changing  Countries of Asia
B.     The Industrial Revolution begins in Great Britain                           
   C.   Changes in Science and Culture
   D.  Reform Movements in the Western World
E.     Unification of Italy and Germany, Russia-the Autocratic Giant
F.     Imperialism in Africa, Asia, and Latin America
