The club was originally formed April 10, 1994 in Binghamton, NY as the Southern New York Miata Club. However, as it soon became apparent that the club was attracting members from the Central New York region, the name MidState Miata Club of New York was officially adopted.

Total membership now stands over 114 cars, and covers areas which includes Syracuse, Auburn, Rochester, Utica, Rome, Elmira, Binghamton, Finger lakes and all points in between.

Club activities normally begin in April, end in October, and our Holiday Party is held in late Fall/Winter. However, due to weather conditions a majority of the cars "go on vacation" when the snow flies. The "fun cars" are not required to attend the holiday party, but we do have a few brave members who do keep their cars on the road for all 12 months.

Club activities over the years have included wine tours, historic sites, poker runs, overnight trips, national events, picnics, tech sessions, boat tours, and museums to name a few. Lunch, brunch or dinner are always a part of our group events. In addition club members get together for short drives for ice cream, or coffee stops as part of the unofficial events.

Due to the distance among our members and the shorter "top down" season in Central New York, our club has their planning meeting in February. At this meeting the upcoming season's activities are planned for the club.

The club newsletter "Miata Meanderings" is published ten times a year and is the main communication among our membership. Area reps confirm event participation for planning purposes. As the club grew, we quickly learned the importance of purchasing two-way radios for event caravans. Most activities attract between 18 and 30 cars. However, upon occasion we may have more than 50.

Our club continues to recruit new members and the Mazda dealerships, Matthews Mazda in Binghamton and Burdick Mazda in North Syracuse have been very supportive in helping us grow through their generous technical expertise and discounted parts and service benefits.
