Mitchell Programming Experience


Senior Scientific Systems Analyst, Service Technology Corp., a subsidiary of LTV Aerospace Corp. Consulting and systems design for NASA Electronics Research Center, Project Apollo, Cambridge, Massachusetts, September 1967 to September 1968. Projects included design and running of computerized simulation models to ascertain the "safest windows in time" for sending the Apollo astronauts to the moon, minimizing the probability of injury or death due to solar radiation. Extensive use of Fortran IV, Fast Fourier Transforms, and IBM 360's. It turns out the the sun radiates most dangerously (with big flares and numerous "sunspots") in direct correlation with the derivative of the force vector on the sun caused by the gravitational forces of the nine planets.
