Chinese writing has evolved over the years. It is easy to see how it began as a simple picture for each word. But then when there were more and more words, and some words hard to draw, the language became more complex and not just pictures anymore.
Here is a poem written in an older style of Chinese characters. Then, on the left side, the same poem is written in modern characters. Can you guess which character is the character for the sun? How about the character for mountains?
Try to guess what the poem is about and then see what the characters actually are and how they've changed from the old style to the modern.
