When I came to China I didn't speak a word of Chinese. I quickly found out that very few people can speak any English. So I had to learn some Chinese words and phrases in order to get along in my daily life. I had to buy things like food and bus tickets, I had to greet people, I had to find bathrooms, I had to find places. I could point and use gestures to communicate some things, but I was going to have to learn some Chinese. I had a little Chinese/English phrase book which helped me learn. What things do you think I learned? What words and phrases were the most important, so the first ones I learned? Try and make a list of what words you think I learned in my two months in China.
