One rupee is not worth one dollar.

In fact, when you exchange dollars for rupees at the bank you get a little more than 70 rupees for each dollar. Bottles of coke are 25 rupees in Kathmandu, so for 50 rupees you can only get two cokes. With a dollar, you can almost get 3.

Their notes have the King of Nepal on one side, and a different Nepali animal, like the one-horned rhino on the 100 rupee note or yaks on the 5 rupee note, on the back.
