While I was in Nepal, they were celebrating their festival of Dasain, and it was like their Christmas break. I didn't get to visit any schools with kids in them, but I did meet one teacher and he showed me around his school.

A French organization helped build it less than five years ago. It was incredible how different it was from schools in America. Rest assured, there were no Crayola markers, especially the really cool neon color ones. Almost 80% of Nepal is illiterate, and in many places there are no schools to go to.

The school I went to wasn't perfect, but it was a school. And any school, especially with a huge-hearted teacher like Pitam Bahadur Tamang, is better than no school. But, many kids still have trouble going to school because they have to help their family. Someone has to watch the goats, or go gather grasses for the cow to eat, or take care of their little baby sister, or countless other tasks.

It is a fact of life in Nepal, kids do alot of chores. And some go to school where they all love to do homework (doesn't every kid love homework?)
