Native American - one of any group of American Indians
tribe - a group held together by family or social ties, geography, or custom
stockade - a high fence made of logs around a village, it protected the village from enemies and wild animals
sapling - a young tree
roundhouse - a house built by the Indians for one family
longhouse - a house built by the Indians in which several families lived. The Iroquois lived in longhouses
clan - a group of families who have a common ancestor. Indian tribes were divided into clans
sachem - an Indian chief who was a member of the council that governed the League of Five Nations
league - a group of people joined together for a common purpose
reservation - land set aside by the United States government for the Indians
