Belle & Sebastian
3.. 6.. 9.. Seconds Of Light EP

One of the EPs the band likes to release inbetween LPs (four EPs in all, this is the third). Four tracks, plus a quiet hidden bonus track. Every one of these EPs are gold, and I wish more bands would follow this trend of releasing solid EPs often than an album every 2 years and only singles from the albums to go along with them. Most of the songs that appeard on the EPs are unreleased previously, and don't show up on the next album either. So they are all unique. The four songs here are "A Century of Fakers," "Le Pastie De La Bourgeoisie," "Beautiful," and "Put the Back On the Shelf," plus a harmonica-laced hidden track.

Highlights:
Le Pastie de la Bourgeoisie
A quick tempo tune with jangly guitars and a great organ. It's a great song, it really is. Plus, the lyrics are pulled from the "Belle & Sebastian folder for songs about kids who are picked on." Good Stuff.

Put the Book Back On the Shelf
Standard Belle and Sebastian instruments. Guitar, piano, trumpet, etc. A great melody plus lyric lines like "Sebastian you're in a mess/You had a dream, they called you king/of all the hipsters is it true?/Or are you still the queen. In my book good melody + good instruments + good lyrics = good song. (maybe i'ts just me, hahah)

BUY! BUY! BUY!
Normally this section contains a link to this particular disc on CDNOW, but I would never intentionally swindle you, would I? CDNOW is usually full of great deals, but to get these EPs, it's cheaper by a lot to order it direct from the band's label in Scotland, Jeepster. Even with shipping to the US, it's only about $8. What a deal! So get over here and look for the shop link on this page.
