WELCOME   

 

PLEASE BRING A SUMMER READING BOOK TO CLASS AND A SNACK FOR BREAK EVERYDAY.

 

PLEASE REFER TO THE TIME SCHEDULE FOR CLASS INFORMATION.

            ON YOUR OWN:      Now think of your own long-term goal. Then write a short term goal and a daily goal that will help you reach your long term goal. Remember to include where and when you will reach these goals and your reasons for these goals.

            When I set goals for myself, I:

 

            List the things I want to get done in the next day or so.

            Note where or when I plan to reach each goal.

            Give a reason why I want to reach the goal.

            Check off each goal I reach.

 

            When I set short-term goals for myself, I:

 

            List things I should do over the next few weeks or months.

            Set a due date for each goal.

            Give a reason why the goal is important.

 

            When I set long-terms goals for myself, I:

           

            List things I hope to achieve in years to come.

            Find out as much as I can about the goal.

            Break my long-term goals into short term and daily goals.

            Finding Your Study Space

                        DO:                 Have a bright light that lights up your whole desk

                                                Keep your study area neat.

                                                Sit in a comfortable, straight back chair.

                        DON’T:           Let a loud radio, TV, or music bother you.

                                                Study in an area where others interrupt you.

                                                Keep magazines, games, and toys on your desk.

            ON YOUR OWN: Draw your study space on the paper provided. Aferwards, list what would make this space better to study in.                     

 

           

            Time Organization

                        Study Calendar—Done weekly

                        Study Clock—Hour-by-hour list

            ON YOUR OWN:      Create your own study calendar for the next week on the paper provided. Make a study clock for each available time slot.

 

            Doing Homework

                        Most Important homework materials:

                          a. Assignment pad

                          b. Textbooks

                          c. Notebooks or tablet

              A “Homework Friendly” Attitude

                        * Pay attention in class

                        * Ask for help

                        * Do Not Fight It!! Just Do It!!!

 

            ON YOUR OWN:      On the paper provided, explain why it is important to have all of your study materials ready before you begin to study.

                   

            Making the Most of Study Time

 

                        DO:                 Get phone calls and chores done before studying.

                                                Use a study calendar and a study clock to help you plan                                                                   your study time.

                                                Work on your least favorite subjects FIRST.

           

                        DON’T:           Try to study when you’re hungry, thirsty, or very tired.

                                                Get nervous if you fall behind. Just change your study                                                                     schedule. Make more time for that subject.

                                                Waste time trying to make one project or paper “perfect”.

                                                Work on your favorite subjects first.

 

            ON YOUR OWN:      On the paper provided, list your two favorite subjects and the last grade your received in them. Then list your two least favorite subjects and the last grade you received in them. Finally, draw a star next to the subjects that you should spend the most time studying.

 

                                                On the backside of the paper, describe some thinkg you can do to use your study time more effectively.

WHEN I STUDY, I:

 

            Have a comfortable, quiet study place.

            Try to work in the same place every day.

            Use a study calendar to plan when I will study.

            Make a study clock to decide what and how long I will study.

            Use my daily goals to plan my study time.

            Arrange all the homework materials I will need before studying.

            Make sure I have an assignment pad, textbooks, and notebooks nearby when I do my homework.

            Have a ‘homework-friendly” attitude.

            Decide which subjects I need to study most.

            Study my least favorite subjects first.
