In May 2000, I obtained my
Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience from Texas Christian
University. Shortly after
finishing my Bachelors I decided to do research . The University of
North Texas Health Science Center allowed me to fulfill my desire to do
research by allowing me to work with the Physiology department doing
cardiac research. During my research opportunity I learned how to make
flow probes and do Lowry protein assays. It was not long before I
realized that I missed the school environment and I decided to go back
to school for my Masters in Education at the University of Texas at
Arlington. I chose to obtain my Masters in Education because I
had always loved the thrill of teaching others what I had learned.
In August 2002, I received my Master of
Education in Curriculum and Instruction degree. My initial
certification was in Psychology 6-12 and I pursued my certification in
Biology 6-12 shortly after. Later I received my certification in
Physical Science 8-12 and I plan to continue to work toward more
certifications in the future.
I have enjoyed teaching
at
South Hills High School for the past two years. Our Physics
classes
have grown tremendously and we are now hired an additional Physics
teacher. Hopefully the love for physics that I try to bring into
my
classroom, along with the challenge, will spur students on into a
variety of fields; such as engineering, aerospace, semiconductors,
interior design, business and much more. I believe in several
philosophies in my
classroom and they include the following: (1) I believe that I
learn as much from my students as they learn from me and therefore
learning in the classroom goes both ways; (2) If I am not having fun then my
students are not having fun learning; (3) High expectations get higher
results; and (4) Everyone has problems, so lets focus on the
solution. My policy is to keep an open door for both parents and
students to approach me in regard to academic progress and I hope that
we will have a very successful year.
I am married to a wonderful
man, Pedro Guillermo Hernandez. My husband, Pedro, is from Puerto
Rico and he moved here about 21 years ago to learn English. Pedro
has been a big supporter of my research, teaching, and my long-term
education goals. We have now been married for over six and a half
years and
are still very much in love with one another.
As of yet, we have no children, however; we both would like to have
children in the future.
