Michael and Nikita failed the required outdoors course for all operatives, Camping 101A.
Michael and Nikita failed Camping 101A, the course that teaches operatives how to put up a tent. Pete Linkcough, Chief Scout Master of Section, had to issue 12 demerits that lead to the flunking.
"They couldn't even get the entire tent up, only the interior mesh covering. A mesh tent is no protection against rain or snow. By not constructing proper shelter they failed," said Chief Scout Master Linkcough.
Nikita agreed to talk to The Section Times about the events that lead to their non-passing grade.
"Michael's tent was too small. That was the first problem. Before we started I asked Michael for a big tent, and he said he already had a big enough tent, but I didn't think so."
When asked about why the covering was not used, Nikita replied, "I was a bit worried about the lack of protection from the elements of nature, but Michael said the texture of the mesh would more than compensate for any leaks there might be."
Nikita went on to describe the night as "very uncomfortable."
"In truth, Michael just didn't know what he was doing. He couldn't tell which end was up. He spent most of the night, fumbling around in the dark, putting the wrong things in the wrong holes…eventually I just gave up trying to help and turned over to go to sleep."
Michael and Nikita are scheduled to retake the class in the spring.
