Week in rewind

T

he battle still continued last we left on Friday in regards to the event form.  It was finally signed and was in the distribution stage.  The Execs were still in discussions with the last minute details still to be straightened out before Islam Awareness Week.  This is an event that cannot be under estimated being the Holiest month of the year.  We expect to see those Brothers and Sisters we don’t normally see coming to Iftar and to reflect.  So be ready everyone….Ramadan is coming!!!

Event Officially Approved

Alhamdullilah!!  We are officially approved for Islam Awareness Week.  Vice President Shuaib Vincent met with George Kim one last time who finally looked over the final draft of our event form and after a few more of the his famous corrections and alterations, we were signed and off to have all the school officials made aware of our event.  The form has is made its rounds to all the Deans and finally came back to M.S.A.  Look around the campus for the Islam Awareness Week posters that finally went up.  The flyers will be out soon so have your hands opened.

Club Fair Day was HUGE SUCCESS!

Wednesday proved to be a very successful day for the Brothers and Sisters of M.S.A.   With an noticeably large and immediate crowd bombarding the table, M.S.A. made itself known to the students of La- Guardia by giving out most of the information pamphlets and materials along with the Qu’ran.

M.S.A. pencils were a great give away as well.  M.S.A was definitely one of the few tables present representing the clubs that were serving a purpose.  The crowd was extremely interested and over flowing with questions.

There was even a story by a (soon to be) sister.  The web site address, we passed out will hopefully draw another crowd via Internet.  Over all we had spoken to countless amounts of individuals and we got over 100 signatures from not only the students but also faculty members.  The Board would like to thank all of you who help with Club Fair.

Mohammed Yassen speaks

A nice way to wind down from an extremely active day is to sit down for our weekly class with Brother Mohammad Yassen.  “The Importance of Ramadan” was the title of yet another effective meeting given by Yassen.  The brother stressed the points of the Holy Month and reminded the class, again why it is the Sacred Month of the Islamic Calendar.  Brother Yassen told the class, “The Qu’ran was revealed in the month of Ramadan”, and “It brings mercy, time to repent and introspection.”

We strongly believe the current students are enjoying learning from Brother Yassen and will certainly keep attending his classes until the end of the semester, InShAllah.

Bits and Pieces

Jummah Salat-  President believes that we need to continue being a strong force at LaGuardia and that means having more participation from the sisters in regards to Jummah.  Of course, with the new sisters coming in, we will work closely with them to get them involved.

Extra! Extra!! Read all about it…!

The Executives don’t even rest on the weekends.  Saturday, Shuaib Vincent was representing M.S.A. as he attended the Leadership Conference.  It was an all day affair consisting of different workshops ranging from teaching, stress management and goal setting.  It was an over all great experience and Shuaib left with a great understanding.

M.S.A. made a rare weekend appearance on Saturday. A brand new exhibit hit the scene at LaGuardia.  Smack in the heart of the college is the Islamic showcase put together by the M.S.A.  On display at the showcase viewers will have the opportunity to see the Qu’ran in different languages such as Chinese, Spanish, English and lets not forget Arabic.  The showcase is housing many Islamic books like “Islam Denounces Terrorism”, “The Miracle of the Qu’ran.”, and “What is Ramadan and Islam?” along with other different pamphlets of information  Please take a look at our work the next time you are by the library.  M.S.A. designed the showcase with the intentions of letting all those who pass by the chance to see the Miracles of the Qu’ran and get a glance at Islam.
