Amidst the forest, among the trees,
back on her way to her hut
she suddenly saw the cunning monster
with its eyes and mouth half-shut.
Whoever comes before this,
she had heard people say,
cruel, heartless, wicked being,
it was bound to slay.
And now the tiger
was ready to pounce upon her,
for a girl so happy and gay,
her end waiting on a lonely way!
Is this the life's law
that whoever enters this earth
has to enter the death's jaw?
Is it fair on the part of the creator
to create a being as well as its predator?
