1. Be respectful (to yourself, your teacher, your peers, others and the school. Being respectful includes listening to others, respecting opinions and not bullying others. Being respectful also means that you do not gossip about others. Respecting the school means that you do not vandalize school, teacher or student property.)
2. Be prepared. (When you walk through the doorway into my classroom, you should have a pen (not red) or a pencil (not colored) and your binder. You should be ready to get to work right away.)
3. Be punctual (on time).
4. Be positive. (Don't take your anger out on someone else and don't let your emotions consume you to the point where you are unable to work or disrupting others. If there is something wrong to that degree, please ask to see a counselor, peer mediator or to go to Australia.)
5. Do your own best work. Remember, you could be swinging on a star! (Do your own work. If you work with another student on homework, that is okay as long as you write both of your names on it and as long as I didn't tell you specifically to do it by yourself. Do not plagiarize. Do the best that you can!)
Remember, you have a choice: to follow the rules or to break them. It is *your* decision. If you choose to follow the rules the following will happen as a consequence of following the rules: 1) You will be successful. You will get good grades in my class. The rules are your recipe for success.
If you choose to break a rule, the following will happen as a consequence of not following the rules:
the first time | your name will be written on the board | this is your warning |
the second time | a check will be made next to your name | Dumbledore will decide whether you will recieve a 5 minute lunch detention or a 30 minute detention the next day after school. If you recieve a 30 minute detention after school, you will also fill out a form that outlines your side of the story, the choices you made and what you can do differently in the future. A phone call will be made home as well. |
the third time | another check (for a total of 2) | This is your signal to get up voluntarily and go to Mrs. Ladd's office to talk to her about the choices that you made and what positive things you could do in the future when you feel like that or are in that situation. |
In severe cases of rule breaking, the offender will be sent immediately to the office. Minutes in after school detentions may be decreased or increased due to good behavior or negative behavior. This is up to the sole discretion of the classroom teacher.
ENGLISH, PLEASE?!
It's like baseball: You follow the rules, do your best and you win. Three strikes (checks) and you're out of the room.
