Rumi himself will preside over The Center events, including a screening of old Cockettes films, plus a fashion showing of Bowers’ cool designer wear. Bowers’ richly embroidered/decorated jackets with 9/11 themes ought to capture plenty of attention. And Rumi is a total gem, who obviously knows every important queer artist in the land, many of whom will be present to salute the Cockettes. Catch them while you can! Check the Friday O&A listing for more details.
Next on my personalized Moon Trent tour was the boys of GayGlo - Brian Busta and Curtis Canady - renowned for putting on black-light shows in the buff in the window of their apartment across the street from Cafe Flore. For ten years these artists have been provoking passers-by with colorful psychedelic performances, starting with an impromptu art installation in the third story window of an 18th and Castro flat. A nude dancer with day-glo body paint performed with props in the window. From there the Gay-Glo boys became legends in Queersville.
On Halloween night in the Castro, look for the body-painted, black-light troupe (including Moon himself) as they perform a terrifying "Trick & Treat Musical" on the Main Stage. They're expected to go on at around 8:45pm; check www.halloweensf.com or GayGlo.net for updates.
The GayGlo folks have a wild, Beach Blanket Babylon flair, employing giant glowing hats and wild cut-out props. In the clean-and-sober atmosphere of the Castro on Halloween night, if it's a glow you're looking for, you'll find it only at GayGlo! Photo of Brian Busta by Biron, used by permission. Thanks Biron!!!
