FOR RELEASE - April 30th, 2004
San Francisco singer Moon Trent (www.moontrentmusic.com) has returned from England and is unveiling a project with, The JULIAN. The bands debut single "Crossfire Hero" is dedicated to the memory of Elliott Smith and has a sound influenced by The Smiths. It will be released on the website for The JULIAN (www.thejulian.net) in early May.
Many remember the soaring vocals of Moon Trent from the bands Brown-Star, a hot queer-core band, and Pale. Pale's Live 105 favorite "Timeworks" will be included on the new Steve Masters Modern Rock CD and the new Hey Day Records CD Compilation 2006.
This week is shaping up to be a whopper! A lot of our major local artists will be out and about performing for your pleasure. I ran into a couple of them just a few days ago in the Castro. There at the intersection of Castro & Market, looking like the rock star he is, wearing a light sleeveless slinky thing caressing his taut torso, was young Moon Trent (Pale; Brown-Star; Visitors Kimberly; The Julian). The magic of his personality and the alignment of the stars and whatnot led us to the restaurant Blue on Market St. near Castro, where Moon espied the lovely Veronica Klaus about to chow down a low-fat burger or something, and this gave me the chance to talk with the great lady about her upcoming big show (see Saturday O&A listing) in The Lodge at The Regency Center, in support of Marriage Equality California. The happily married Ms. Klaus is all for the legal right for gays and lesbians to wed, and so she's putting her heart and soul into this show. She assures me you'll be breath-taken by the fabulous décor, and I know you'll be charmed by her music and personality, as I have been for many years now. Be sure to wish her a happy 40th birthday!

After leaving Blue, Moon filled me up with news of his own coming events, including Rumi Missabu's "Camaraderie III," the latest Cockettes-related event, happening this Saturday and Sunday (see listing for details), with lots of art on display in Rumi's cool Victorian pad in Duboce Triangle, plus Moon and his artsy musician friends will be entertaining guests out on the patio.
Moon lives just across the street from Rumi, in a pad with his adoring husband and creative partner David Cole, and he brought me there to hear a recording with The JULIAN, which includes Moon, Darwin Knaggs (ex-Caffeine), and . Moon sang "Crossfire Hero," a song he'd written in tribute to the late great singer/songwriter Elliott Smith, and without hesitation I said it was a sure-fire radio hit. No question about it. The Julian is going to stir things up in San Franisco. Learn more about it at moontrentmusic.com. - Mark Mardon
