Check out the new Character Prior's Generator! While it's still not totally complete, it is still fun to play around with. I should have the rest of the prior's tables added to it soon.

GaryCon.. err.. GenCon begins this weekend and I expect some interesting news on HackMaster to come from it. It's already been announced that Gary Jackson's cremated remains will be on hand for lucky dice rubs! What more could you ask for? Hopefully we will also get some spy reports on what is in the HackMaster GameMaster's Guide.

If you're like me and you can't get to GenCon this year (I went to a GenCon South in Jacksonville back in the '80s once- sigh... those were the days.), check out Virtual GenCon.

I'm afraid that I haven't made much progress this past week on the character generator. I've been far too busy programming at work and have been a little too burned out to program at home as well. Hopefully, this week will be different.

If you look at the bottom of this page, you will see that I have joined the KODT webring. I'm still waiting for some of you to put up your own HackMaster fan sites and join the HackMaster webring.

Some people have already gotten their hands on the HOB #2. So start badgering your local Weird Pete for it! I will probably order it online as most the stores around here are clueless.

I am beginning work on the next step of the character creator- character priors. Hopefully, I will have it completed by the weekend.

Here is another review of the Hacklopedia Volume 1. Its a pretty good write-up, but the author definitely doesn't get all the inside jokes. Sigh...

Hacklopedia of Beasts Volume #2 just shipped to distributors!!! Hoody Freakin' Hoo! Something new to spend money on...

KODT #57 shipped out today according to this post by Jolly!

#57 shipped today!!! We apologize for the delay. We've been proud of our track record as being one of the few indy comics consistently on time. As someone pointed out my involvement with the Player's Handbook got in the way. And it certainly didn't help that the summer con season is upon us. (sigh).

However, Noah and I have been knuckling down on KODT the last few weeks and we hope to be back on schedule very soon. Our apologies to everyone who's been camped out at their mailbox or local gameshop anxiously awaiting their issue.

Hooray, I just subscribed a couple of weeks ago and this issue has a section of rules to get your HackMaster game going even without the GM's guide.

Mack Brewer has created a very kewl character creation worksheet and has allowed me to post it here for your downloading pleasure. Check it out!

According to my poll results, most of you (61%) want me to work on an improved character generator for HackMaster. Well, fear not, for I have been working feverishly on such a thing. I will be working this week on the next step- character priors. The other most requested programs were a random treasure generator (23%) and a random encounter generator (15%). So these will be the next things that I will begin work on after the character generator is finished.

In order to keep this page from getting too long, I have created a news archives page where you can read my past ramblings.

Kenzer & Co. News-
They have created a message board just for HackMaster errata. Use it to post problems or errors that you have found or to ask rules questions. Also, they have just put up an Errata page that details offical rules clarifications.

I finally got the race selection step of the character generator to work. The next step should prove easier and a lot more entertaining to boot...
July 17, 2001
Here is my best guess at a product release schedule for HackMaster. I put this together over what officials from Kenzer have been saying over on the message boards. I will update it whenever I hear fresh info.

Kenzer & Co. have posted the official player character record sheet online in a pdf file. Download it today!

I got my HackMaster Player's Handbook yesterday and have been working furiously to get my online character generator in line with the new 4th edition rules. Phase One is complete, so check it out!

I love the new PHB so far, as well as the HOB. I don't think I will get the time to actually writing reviews for them so here are a couple that are posted over at Eric Noah's D&D site:

Hoody Hoo! My Hacklopedia has finally arrived! While I am busy devouring that, here are a couple of bulletins-

Kenzer & Co. will be producing their own line of HackMaster Miniatures done by the same designer that made the Fairy Meat minis!

Noah Kolman has posted an example character on the message board. Damn, I didn't know Gnome Titans were so tough!
July 11, 2001
The mail watch begins today! My Hacklopedia should be arriving any day now.

Take a look at this great HackMaster article written by Jolly.

I just got the info on the HackMaster Player's Association. It is quite an ambitious gaming organization that Kenzer is trying to put together. Until they post the documents on their website, I have posted them for your reading pleasure in my new Downloads section

I also found this interesting article on HackMaster today. July 20, 2001

I placed my order for the Player's Handbook today with Kenzer & Co. by phone and was helped by a very nice woman. Gawd, it's nice to find that some companies still like their customers.

Here is the latest from Kenzer's Noah Kolman on release dates-

The HackMaster Player's Handbook has shipped to distributors. It should be in store in a week or two.
The GameMaster's Guide should be out in September.
The Hacklopedia of Beasts vol. 2 is at the printer and should be out in 3 weeks.
The rest of the Hacklopedias will follow at a rate of about 2 every month.
The Character sheets do not have a release date yet.
The GM's screen should be available in September.

Well, again no luck in finding the Hacklopedia at a game store today. Sigh... Apparently, the story is that no one is ordering the Hacklopedia until they can order the Player's Handbook as well. I will have to order straight from Kenzer & Co. now. Anyway, this gives me a good excuse to go ahead and get that Black Hands t-shirt that I always wanted. Too bad their online store is so lame...

Mikeeze Wurld is now open for business! I know that none of the online programs I have are specific to HackMaster, but what do you want for nothing? As soon as I can actually get a hold of the game, I will be writing HackMaster specific utilities. Unfortunately, I was once again unable to find the Hacklopedia today. Maybe tomorrow....

It was on the HackMaster Message Board recently that the HackMaster Player's Handbook is for sale at Origins. Apparently, it is like the 1st Edition AD&D Player's Handbook in that it does not contain the rules for combat. So, in order to play before the Game Master's Guide comes out, Kenzer & Co. is including some rules in issue #57 of KODT.

The site is shaping up. The basic look is complete and most of it is functional. I plan on adding a lot of features as soon as I can, but you know its tuff to build a site for something I haven't even seen yet. Hopefully, I will find the Hacklopedia somewhere this weekend. As soon as I get it, I will begin to write a review.

Jolly on the AD&D license-
"I appreciate your concerns but rest assured our AD&D 1E/2E license is rock solid and obtained WOTC's full approval prior to doing HackMaster so there's no danger of the license beng yanked. I know there's a misconception among many people that HackMaster is a d20 open license beast but that's not the case. HackMaster is based on AD&D 1E/2E and as such is NOT a d20 system product. Any similiarities with 3E are due to the fact that BOTH games draw from the same well (AD&D). Anyway, I can't give the details of the license but I can tell you we're on safe ground."

I got the bug and started working on the site tonight. HackMaster looks like it is going to be so cool that I must build my online altar to it.

I set up a Web Ring for HackMaster sites over on Webring.org. This was pretty simple as I used to run the Wargamer's Ring and the Greyhawk Adventures Ring a couple of years ago. This will be a great way to connect HackMaster sites together into a online community and make it easier for fans to find them.
