Breeti
DESCRIPTION: The Breeti are surmised to be an off-shoot of imps and pixie, but it has not been proven out. Where the Breeti originally reside is also unknown. They appear as 2 to 3 feet high humanoid creatures with a baby-like body and a large head. They have a single eye and a wide, innocent grin. They have no nose, ears, or genitalia, but have a cute little belly button. They appear in a variety of colors, majority of them being pastel. Their eye colors never match their body color. They float in mid-air and fly at quick, darting speeds. Treat as a permanent Fly spell which cannot be dispelled. The Breeti are incapable of speech, or at least they pretend to, but can understand virtually any language, and use Ventriloquism for pranks. They communicate half the time with cute little puppy whimpers, cocking of the heads and hand gestures. Most of the time, victims can not understand the strange, complicated gesticulations and plaintive gazes.
COMBAT/TACTICS: When a Breeti is first encountered, it is always a single individual. They tend towards thieves, and will appear innocuous and unassuming at first. They'll 'bond' themselves to the thief (or like individual) by saving their life or being incredibly helpful in some manner. Soon, the rogue will be shadowed by the creature as if it were a puppy, but may put up with it as long as the creature proves valuable. It will not leave even if he attempts to shoo it away, thinking it only a game. The Breeti will be a boon at first, helping him in the dire of situations, and the character will almost come to depend on this creature, however, he'll soon discover that it is nearly impossible to 'hide in shadows', 'move silently' when a brightly colored creature is bobbing a few feet above him (character's abilities are halfed with a Breeti present). Any attempts to shoo or urge the creature away will only insite giggles and playful antics.
Within 1-4 days after the first appearance of the Breeti, another 1-4 will appear. They'll follow the same tactics as the first, but they will become more mischievous and impish, playing tricks on the character and his party. At times they appear to speak between themselves and will act innocently when party members discover them (some will even whistle nonchalantly). Breeti will not eat anything the first couple days before the appearance of the next Breeti. After that, food, drink and rations will disappear in small amounts from the party's equipment, until it becomes fairly obvious the imps are responsible.
Each following day thereafter another 1-4 will appear until a maximum of 12. They'll be helpful at times, but at this point they'll be so bothering to the thief character (pulling on his sleeves, tossling his hair, etc.), that he will fail all and any thief abilities. The Breeti can use their spell of Invisibility only when it suits them, or it involves a prank. Any attempts by characters to perform a talent or abilitie will suffer at a -20% penalty.
In combat, they'll confound the other characters, giving them a -4 to their hits and damages. Of course, this applies to the opponents as well. Eventually, the antics of the Breeti will build into such a fury, it will most likely drive the characters to drastic action.. Any attempts to kill the Breeti will only be seen as a game. Even if a hit is made on a Breeti, it will appear as if the creature was narrowly missed, but in reality they're taking damage. Once a Breeti's hitpoints have reached 0, they simply disappear with a odd 'popping' sound and a giggle. Once a party has encountered a group of Breeti and vanquished them, they will never be bothered again.
Treat Breeti's pick pocket abilities as a 9th level thief. The Breeti have the following spells: Levitation, Invisibility 15', Ventriloquism, Dancing Lights, Blindness.
HABITAT/SOCIETY: The Breeti exist in some dimension outside of the Prime Material Plane. Ergo, little is known about them. When a new Breeti appears, they'll act as if they're a long lost friend or family, hugging and kissing, cooing in a sickeningly sweet manner. How much of this is an act or not is unknown.
ECOLOGY: Breeti are a nuisance to adventurers they've picked out for their pranks.
