Inite
DESCRIPTION:  Inites are plant-like entities utilized by the Malferon (q.v.) as a security system and a means to bolster their fighting ranks (read: cannon fodder). They're stalky black plants with wilting stems which end in tapered bulbs. These shiny black bulbs act as the sensory organs which send telepathic images back to a mother plant which the Malferon use to monitor their borders and realm. The bulbs which imbedded themselves into the eyesockets of victims exude an ichor into the body which flows out of any visible orifices.

COMBAT/TACTICS: The plants use their visual sensors (the bulbs) to zero in on their prey, and then when they are within 60' range, the bulb will fire, aiming for the eyes. A victim must save vs. death magic or else the bulb will impale the eye. Otherwise, the bulb causes 1-4 points of damage. In the following round, the bulb will shoot tendrils into the victim's brain and they will take over control of the body whether it is dead or alive. Once the Inite has take over the body, it will gain any physical attacks the host possessed, but is unable to cast spells the host may have. If the body does not have weapons, it will simply pummel with any available limbs for 1-8 points of damage each. The Inite also gains the armor class of its host (unless it is worse than the Inite's natural armor class). Since the Inite pumps the body with hormones and other fluids known only to the Dimension of Nightmares, the host takes only half damage from conventional weapons, and half damage from fire and cold spells. However, the Inites are susceptible to electrical attacks and take double damage from such attacks. Any electrical attack on an Inite-possessed victim has a 50% chance of driving the Inite from the host.

Once an Inite is forced from the body, it must be immediately be killed or else it will grow into a whole new plant within 1 to 2 weeks.

Mother Plants: These towering plants are the source of the Inites and relay all of the inform and telepathic messages to and from the Inites and the Malferon. If the Mother Plant is ever destroyed, the Inite plants become harmless. This is way Malferon are careful to hide the Mother Plants deep within guarded caverns. Mother Plants prefer damp areas and caverns, but can survive in dry regions. Mother Plant have an armor class of 9, they have no attacks, but will send a distress signal to the nearest Inites to protect itself. A Mother Plant has 48 hit points.

HABITAT/SOCIETY:  Inites originally come from the Dimension of Nightmares, and are actually common on that realm. They can survive in virtually any environment, even the most remote and lifeless of areas. Inites are gestated in the bodies of massive "mother plants", but are capable of reproducing separately from the main plant.

ECOLOGY:  Inites are a deadly part in the Malferon's plot to take over the Prime Material Plane.
