Ooloth
DESCRIPTION:  The Ooloth is believed to be a relative of the gelatinous cube, only in the fact that they are comprised of similar material. The Ooloth appears as a gelatinous, amorphous mass surrounded by two quickly, whirling black orbs. The body can compress as small as a 2x2x2 area and expand to as large as 10x10x10. It can fit through the smallest of cracks, but will not go anywhere where the black orbs can not. The orbs are actually its sensory apparatus, seeing with normal vision as well as 60' infravision and ultravision. The eyes are also its 'eggs' (see below).

COMBAT/TACTICS: The Ooloth controls the orbs up to 30' from its body, using them as weapons to strike down its prey. The orbs do 1-8 points of damage each. Each orb can take 20 points of damage before they'll shatter. The orbs have a 20% chance of knocking an opponent unconscious. If the Ooloth succeeds in subduing its prey, the main body will settle on the victim and begin to digest them at 2 HP per round until they are completely consumed, leaving only the skeleton, armor, and any other non-organic matter. If an Ooloth's main body is destroyed, the eyes will automatically drop to the floor, harmless.

HABITAT/SOCIETY:  The Ooloth, like its cousin can be found roaming subterrenean lairs or dungeons. Unlike its cousin, the Ooloth retains some of the memories, intelligence of its victims. Although, it is incapable of learning or using spells the victims had. Thus, the Ooloth at times can be convinced to patrol dungeons as long as there was food available to it.

ECOLOGY:  The eyes of an Ooloth are also their eggs. If the main Ooloth is killed, the eyes left alone will hatch a new Ooloth in one week (of course it will not have memories or intelligence until it absorbs an intelligent being). If an Ooloth loses any of its eyes, it will begin to grow them inside of its gelatinous form. In one week, it will release the eyes for use. In the meantime, the Ooloth hides and seeks prey it can handle until the eyes are ready. An Ooloth can only have two eyes at any one time. Although, there is rumored to be an Ooloth "mother" which possesses a 100 eyes.

Medicinal:  The remains of the eyes can be powdered and used in a Stoneskin Potion.
