Ms. Sackstein's Class Policies

"Good questions work on us, we don't work on them. They are not a project to be completed but a doorway opening onto greater depth of understanding, actions that will take us into being more fully alive." - Peter Bloc

    Grading Policies

20% Completion of homework and class participation. This includes: daily assignments, book reports and special projects competed proficiently and on time.
80% various assessments. This includes regular weekly or bi-weekly quizzes, tests, midterm, final examinations, essays or creative writing pieces, completion of all in-class journals, portfolios, participation in group projects, oral presentation and cooperation in library and computer lab activities. There will NEVER be surprise tests.

    Class Rules

The classroom is a community of learners and everyone in the room should be respected and treated as an equal. Treat your classmates as you would like to be treated.
There is no eating or drinking in the classroom community. We don't want to invite any unwanted visitors (the ones with more than 2 legs)!
There is no cursing in our community. Cursing is disrespectful and it shows a lack of consideration. Try to find more creative ways of expressing your emotion while in class.
There is no name calling in our community. No likes to be called stupid or any other colorful, but unfriendly names. Please treat everyone as an equal.
There is no talking while one person is addressing the class whether it be the teacher or the students. We can't learn in our community if there is no order.
Cheating will not be tolerated. We are all on the honor code in our community and whenever we are in a test environment, we must respect that test environment. Any questionable behavior will result in an automatic failure and a letter home.
Materials in the community are to be shared and respected. There are many classes who use the books in the library and markers, please treat the books with respect. No one likes to read a book that is written all over or has any kind of real damage.
Feedback is welcome and participation is important. However, we need to keep the feedback to constructive criticism to keep it from straying away its purpose of improvement.
There will be no throwing of any objects in the community. This includes: paper, pens, books, gum, etc. We need to ensure the safety of the people in our community.
Let's keep the mood and tone in the community positive. We are going to have a great year!

    Homework

  • Homework will be spot checked and used as part of class work; therefore must always be done.
  • When homework will be collected, it will be announced.
  • Homework assignments later than 1 week will not be acceptable. A make up assignment will have to be done instead.
  • Make up assignments can be obtained by conference with me, upon the student's request.
