The Safko Beer Page
Being over on this side of the pond, I've had the chance to sample many of the local brews in
the lands to which I've travelled. The best I've found so far is the German brew, Warsteiner.
I'll continue the search for the good of the people, though, and post the findings here. And
remember, I'm not doing it because I want to. I'm doing it for you!

The Michael Safko secret to babysitting!
I have rated the beers on a 1 to 10 Mug scale (10 being the best, 1 being the worst)

Ten Mug Brews:

- Warsteiner -- A excellent German beer (who would have thought the Germans made good beer?)
- Tuborg Julebryg -- A seasonal xmas beer by Tuborg (Danish)

Nine Mug Brews:

- Tuborg -- One of the two major Danish beers.
- Carlsberg -- The other Danish brew. It's "probably the best beer in town." That's actually their slogan!
- Tuborg Paskebryg -- A seasonal Easter beer by Tuborg
- Red Tuborg -- Tuborg's red beer. Excellent.

Eight Mug Brews:

- Carl's Paske -- Carlsberg's seasonal Easter beer
- Carl's Jul -- Carlsberg's seasonal Christmas beer
- Harp -- A lager from the folks at Guinness. Excellent
- Grolsch -- Not sure where it's from, but wow, is it good!

Seven Mug Brews:

- Sam Adams Boston Lager -- Yeah, I know it's not Euro, but it's my favorite in the States right now.
- Murphy's Irish Red -- A good Irish Ale
- Guinness -- A great beer, but just too filling for me
- Dos Equis Amber -- The lesser known Mexican beer, but not because of the flavor
- Corona -- The Mexican beer served best with a lime (best in Mexico & Buffett concerts!)

Six Mug Brews:

- Kilkenny -- Another good Irish brew
- Murphy's Irish Stout -- Similar to Guinness
- Fosters -- It's Austrailian for beer, mate!
- Tuborg Classic -- Not much different than the regular Tuborg, but less alcohol
content.
- New Castle Brown -- A fine ale, but I've only had it from a bottle (would like to try on tap).

Five Mug Brews:

- Heineken -- Much better in Holland on tap than "that crap in the green bottles you have in the States." That's a direct quote from the bartender there, and he's right.
- Ringness -- A Norwegian beer.
- Mythos -- A Greek beer.
- Caffrey's Creme Ale -- Irish creme beer, not bad, but a little too creamy for me.

Four Mug Brews:

- Breo -- A Pilsner from Guinness (only available in Ireland right now)
- I.C. Light -- American crap beer, but it's American crap beer from the 'Burgh!
- Falcon -- A Swedish beer.
- Foster's Ice -- More like American beer than Austrailian (watered down and
not much flavor)

Three Mug Brews:
- Coors Light -- Sadly this was once my favorite. Oh to be young and
naive!
Two Mug Brews:
- Cruzcampo -- A Spanish beer: it's easy to see why they prefer wine and mixed drinks!
- Peroni -- An Italian beer, very bitter with a bad aftertaste
One Mug Brews:
- Natural Light -- college friends drank this crap (I even thought it was crap
before I learned what good beer is)
- Milwaukee's Best -- college friends drank this crap (I even thought it was crap
before I learned what good beer is)
I know, now you're thinking: "That's all fine and dandy for Safko, who is over there where all those wonderful beers
are brewed, but how do I get my hands (or more importantly, lips) on these beers?" Check out these sites to find where you can get good
