PRESIDENT’S COLUMN – Ed Phillips -President MTFEA -2001
I hope you're as excited about MTFEA by now as I am! Membership continues to grow (thanks to many of you). Our CFC Campaign is progressing very well under the leadership of Col. Donald Koonce and Ruben Rodriquez and the leadership of our LFCC group. Sarah Wilson and our Scholarship Committee awarded our $500 scholarship recently to a fine young man. Attendance at our third Tuesday luncheon meetings continue to be very good. Our June meeting at the Federal Building will be a very special one as we express appreciation to Federal Employees (see additional information elsewhere). Melissa Cothron and our Communications Committee works very hard to ensure you receive a quality Newsletter from your Association and Melissa will shortly launch MTFEA's web site. We begin with our June meeting a brief Agency profile presentation by the Agency's Director or his/her designee. Brenda Cleaver, Sr. Community Builder, will profile HUD for us. The Corps of Engineers, SBA and Social SecurityAdministration will present a profile in the coming months. Our Leadership Group met this week and committed to re-establishing the Association's Policy Committee. That Committee in the past had 12 members, plus the elected officers, serving staggered four-year terms. Please let me know if you have an interest in serving. It is important that the Committee represent as many of our Agencies as is possible.
Please make every effort to join us June 19!
SCHOLARSHIP WINNER - CAMERON BLAKE PARNELL
We are proud to announce the recipient of the MTFEA Scholarship for 2001 is Cameron Blake Parnell. Cameron is a 2001 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School. He has excelled in academics and athletics, graduating with high honors, while developing his skills of leadership through community service and local employment. Cameron represented his high school at American Legion Boys State and was recently selected as Outstanding Academic Athlete for Mt. Juliet High. Throughout high school, Cameron was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served as huddle leader his senior year. Individuals from his high school and work place describe Cameron as a leader among his peers, a dedicated student/employee and a person of the highest character.
Cameron has been accepted into the Aerospace Program with a Professional Pilot major at Middle Tennessee State University. He is the son of Scott and Gaye Parnell. Gaye is an employee of the Internal Revenue Service.
We wish Cameron the best as he pursues his dream in aviation.

MULTI-CULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL - JUNE 21, 2001 9AM-3PM
The Internal Revenue Service and the EEO and Diversity Office are sponsoring a Multi-Cultural Festival for 2001. They would like to extend an invitation to the federal agencies in MTFEA if any of their employees would like to feature a culture. If so, they should contact Jackie London or Sarah Wilson at 250-5690. If you or your agency cannot do a booth, any type of ethnic entertainment would be great. As of June 7, the following cultures will be represented at the Multi-Cultural Festival: New Guinea, Hawaiian/Polynesian, Kurdish, Native American, Asian, Canadian, German, Egyptian, Israeli, Bleizian, Japanese, and African.
