Chapter Thirty Four

"Brian said that you liked this song, that you wanted to sing it to me. You never did sing for me, that's something I'd like to have happen. He says I should listen to it and let it speak for you. So I guess I will." She turned the case over and looked at the title of the song. "'Change My Ways' You always said you'd change your ways for me." She laughed sadly and put the cd in and programmed the third song in before sitting back down on the chair next to the bed. She sniffled as the song started and listened intently.

Alecia looked over at him and smirked, the drinking and a million friends things certainly was true. She shook her head, totally Nick. Totally expected, she wasn't however, expecting the chorus. She listened.

She turned and looked at him, her heart was racing. She couldn't believe it. Not Nick, not him. Not with the way he was. He kept telling her he'd change, but she wouldn't listen. She looked down as the song continued.

Had she really helped him realize the kind of life he was living? Could she really have effected him so greatly? It never occurred to her that he would actually take anything she said to heart. Maybe the fact that he'd broken that promise, really had upset him. She was totally shocked. The chorus came up again and kept drilling into her heart.

She slowly lifted his hand to cup her cheek. The tears fell and she sobbed into his warm hand. How could she have been so stupid? How could she have been so blind? The song kept going, she didn't know how much more she could take.

"Nick, god why didn't you tell me? Why? You should've made me listen, you locked me in your room right? Why didn't you say it then? Why!" She cried out, still holding his hand and sobbing into the bed.
