The selected candidates will receive a letter of their selection from the
director of the programme by March 20, 2002.
They are requested to reserve for tickets so that they could be
at IIT-Bombay by the evening of 19-5-2002. They should make their
own arrangements for the return tickets also.
Sleeper class railway fare (or the bus fare, in case there
is no railway route) by the shortest route both ways will be
given. Please make a photocopy of the tickets or keep the used
ones as they may be required while claiming reimbursement for
travel.
They are further requested to fill the acceptance form enclosed
with this letter and send it by post only to Professor Inder K. Rana,
the coordinator of the programme so as to reach him on or before 16th April, 2002.
In case we do not receive the acceptance form
by 16th April, 2002, the admission will be cancelled. The selected candidates can download
the acceptance form and send it to the coordinator
Only on receiving acceptance form, he will send them a letter
giving the information such as how to reach the Department of
Mathematics, IIT-B, Mumbai. They should receive this by the second
week of May.
Local participants will be allowed to participate
in all the academic activities of the programme and will be
provided the study material (at the end) and they will also get free
tea and lunch during the day. However they will not be given
hostel accommodation.
General instruction:
The Programme will be very intensive, requiring the candidates to spend
about five and a half hours of study of mathematics every day in
the class room and a couple of hours of study in the hostel
room. Please be prepared to work hard and compete with other
participants. While competition is good for one's improvement,
they may also bear in mind that their primary aim should be to
learn mathematics. The teachers will be accessible and be ready
to help them in their difficulties. The class room presentation
will not be the usual lecture style but will require an active
participation from you. Do not bother about the topics to be
covered and textbooks. The most important purpose of this
programme is to train you to think rather than to introduce you
to a lot of jargon.
The candidates are also requested to bring with them a letter
from one of their teachers on the College letterhead certifying your present
course of study at their college.
