CONSTITUTION
PREAMBLE
We, the members of The MU LAMBDA FRATERNITY, a
Fraternity of the UERMMMC College of Medicine,
imploring the aid of the Divine Providence, to
establish and maintain brotherly relation among
ourselves and colleagues in the field of medicine, to
uphold the spirit of cooperation, utmost loyalty and
service, and to attain the aims and preserve the
principles guiding The Fraternity, do hereby ordain
and promulgate this constitution.
Article I. NAME OF THE FRATERNITY
Section 1. The Fraternity shall be called the MU
LAMBDA FRATERNITY
Article II. PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES
Section 1. To foster and nurture brotherhood among
the members.
Section 2. To uphold the dignity, integrity and
discipline in accordance with the constitution set
forth.
Section 3. To carry on and maintain academic
excellence in all fields of endeavor.
Section 4. To uphold the ideals of the University of
the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center
Article III. MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership is open to all MALE students
of the UERMMMC College of Medicine.
Section 2. Male students of good moral character, in
good academic standing, and duly enrolled in the
UERMMMC College of Medicine are eligible for
membership.
Section 3. All members who are enrolled or members of
the faculty and medical staff shall be considered as
the resident members of The Fraternity.
Section 4. All members not enrolled or not members of
the faculty and medical staff shall be considered non-resident
members of The Fraternity.
Section 5. Honorary members are persons who are
active and of good standing in the medical profession,
agree and abide with the constitution of The
Fraternity, nominated, elected unanimously by secret
balloting.
Section 6. Honorary members are entitled to all the
privileges of a member except the right to vote and
the right to take part in the initiation rites.
Section 7. Screening and initiation of the applicants
shall be held not more than twice in a school year.
Section 8. Members shall be inducted after having
passed the screening and initiation rites.
Section 9. Membership shall be lifetime.
Article IV.
Article V. DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS AND
BOARD OF ADVISERS
Section 1. The Grandmaster
a. He shall officially represent The Fraternity.
b. He shall call and preside in all meetings and
activities of The Fraternity.
c. He can create ADHOC Committees and appoint members
thereof.
d. He shall be an ex-officio chairman of all standing
committees.
e. He shall sign checks of the Fraternity together
with the Guardian of the Coffers or the Quartermaster.
f. He shall perform such other duties inherent to the
Office of the Grandmaster.
Section 2. The Vice-Grandmaster
a. He shall assume the duties of the Grandmaster in
the latter’s absence.
b. He shall be the chairman of the Initiation
Committee.
Section 3. The Scribe
a. He shall make a record of all proceedings of the
meetings and activities The Fraternity.
b. He shall be the custodian of records and seal of
The Fraternity.
c. He shall keep the lists of all members showing
addresses and other data.
d. He shall assume the duties of the Grandmaster in
the absence of both the Grandmaster and Vice-Grandmaster.
e. He shall receive and prepare all the
communications authorized by the Grandmaster.
Section 4. The Quartermaster
a. He shall sign with the Grandmaster in the
disbursement of funds.
b. He shall be responsible for all the financial
matters of The Fraternity as authorized by the
Grandmaster.
Section 5. The Herald
a. He shall be the Public Relations Officer of The
Fraternity.
b. He shall serve all the official announcements and
notices to all members of The Fraternity with regards
to all activities.
Section 6. The Marshals
a. They shall have the authority to maintain order
and proper decorum in all activities of The
Fraternity.
Article VI. COMMITTEES
Section 1. The Standing Committees
a. Executive Committees shall consist of the
incumbent set of officers and Board of Advisers. It
shall be the policy making body of The Fraternity.
However, the implementation of such policies shall be
with the approval of the body.
b. Initiation Committee shall consist of the Vice-Grandmaster
as the chairman and eight members to include the
Marshals. The committee shall be responsible for the
screening of the applicants and shall conduct the
initiation in accordance with the Constitution.
c. Scholastic Committee shall consist of a Chairman
and five members to be appointed by the Grandmaster.
The committee shall promote
ways and means to maintain academic excellence as
embodied in the Constitution.
Section 2. ADHOC Committees shall be formed from
time to time and as the need may arise and shall
perform all the duties for which they are created
which may not conflict with the duties of the
Standing Committees.
Article VII. MEETINGS
Section 1. The Fraternity shall hold at least one
meeting a month.
Section 2. Special meetings shall be called by the
Grandmaster as the need may arise.
Section 3. Fifty percent plus one of the total
resident members shall constitute a quorum.
Section 4. The Fraternity shall hold an annual ball.
Article VIII. FUNDS
Section 1. The funds of The Fraternity shall come
from the annual dues and from whatever money that may
be donated to or produced by the Fraternity.
Section 2. The annual membership fee for the resident
members shall be P50; to be paid per month.
Article IX. IMPEACHMENT AND EXPULSION
Section 1. Suspension and expulsion of members:
Violation of the Constitution and acts derogatory to
the integrity of The Fraternity shall constitute
grounds for suspension and/or expulsion from The
Fraternity.
a. Suspension of any member of The Fraternity should
be approved by 2/3 of the total resident members of
The Fraternity.
b. Expulsion of any member should be approved by 2/3
vote of the total resident members of The Fraternity.
c. Such proceedings shall be held in a special
meeting duly convened for such purposes.
Section 2. Impeachment of Officers: Impeachment of
any officer of The Fraternity may be undertaken for
failure to perform specific duties set forth by the
Constitution.
a. Impeachment of an officer should be approved by 2/3
vote of the total resident members of The Fraternity.
b. The proceedings shall be held in a special meeting
duly convened for such purposes.
Article X. AMENDMENTS
Section 1. Amendments of these by-laws may be made
upon approval of the total resident members sitting
in duly convened body.
Article XI. RATIFICATION
Section 1. The Constitution shall take effect
thirty days after ratification by 2/3 vote of the
total resident members.
