Womens' Volleyball
Tournament '98 - '99
Winning the annual UERM Womens Volleyball
Tournament for the second time in a row is the team
of the College of Physical Therapy (PT). Despite
having the final game on their examination week and
lacking audience support, the PT team outperformed
the team of the Med 2001 from the start, winning all
three sets (15-2, 15-12, 15-6) in the best-of-five
match. The champions took home a trophy and a cash
prize of P1000 while the second placers were awarded
a trophy and P500. A total of five teams (PT, 2000,
2001, 2002A, 2002B) joined the competition. Games
were held at the UERMMMC gym and the competition
lasted from November to February.
The members of the winning team are the following:
Marnie Sta. Maria, Josebel Fernando, Lady Bautista,
Mienne Dungca, Liancale Dy, Pia Jerez, Lala Torres,
Jodelyn Flores, Ava Ferido, Nine Carlos, Hazel Que,
Odette Santiago, Anne Debil, Angie Lintag, Sharon
Alazar, Mary Grace Mercado, Angeline Escalona, and
Michelle Bautista.
The annual womens volleyball tournament is
sponsored by the Mu Lambda Sorority, which is
currently celebrating its 30th year anniversary.
Christmas Carolfest '98
The 20th annual Christmas Carolfest, sponsored by
the Mu Lambda Fraternity and the Mu Lambda Sorority,
was held last December 16 at the UERM gym with the
theme, "Ngayong pasko ng sentenaryo, panibagong
buhay at pag-asa sa bawat Filipino". A total of
six choral groups participated, all vying for the
grand prize of P2000. Each group was required to
perform the contest piece, "Pasko na naman"
as well as a piece of their choice. Performances were
judged on the harmony, interpretation and relevance
of the pieces.
The event was hosted by Mu Lambda Grandmaster
Eddie Lim and Most Exalted Sister Bea Mapa. Opening
remarks were given by Dr. Adrian Peņa. Performing an
intermission number was CARDIAC of 2001, who danced
to the tune of Star of 54s "If you could
read my mind".
Taking first place this year, with an overall
score of 92%, is the choir of the students from the
College of Physical Therapy, with their rendition of
the song, "Diwa ng Ating Pasko". At 2nd
place with a rating of 86% was the Medicine class of
2000A, singing, "Simbang Gabi". 3rd place
went to the group of Med 2002B, with the song, "Diwa
ng Pasko".
Cash prizes amounting to P2000 and P1000 were
given to the first and second place winners,
respectively.
Other groups that participated were the choirs of
Med 2000B, 2001A and 2002A.
3 on 3 Basketball
Tournament '98
The Mu Lambda Fraternity, celebrating its 35th
anniversary, once again sponsored the annual 3 on 3
Mens basketball tournament. Held last November
9 and 16 at the UERM gym, this event saw 12 teams of
students from the various colleges competing for the
championship title.
Games were played on a half-court and lasted 10
minutes each. Teams were composed of at least 3
players, and were allowed a substitute. Refereeing
the matches were Mu Lambdans Louie Arenal, Bong
Abella and Dino Vargas. Amateur rules applied to all
games and fouls were limited to 4 per person.
Disappointingly absent from the tournament was the
team of employees, champion of last years event.
Winning the event after 4 grueling rounds was the
team of Med 2001B, namely, Woowoo Ortiz, Luis
Pajarillo, Nick Reyes and Demps Villaroman.
The winners took home a cash prize of P2000.
