Performers, Renfaire Troupes, and Other Such Silliness
The Seadogs of St. Dymphna That would be the group you've been reading about. The Neato Keen official site is permanently evolving... See the 'dogs! See what they do! Find out where to personally shower them with adoration!
The Bankeside Schole of Defense A southern Californian "historical stage combat school", featuring many actors who honed their craft on the stages of RPFS/RPFN, and have banded together to learn more from period references.
The Bristol Discussion Page A page centered around the Bristol Renaissance Faire (one of REC's other faires), and specifically around the Seadogs (not at all connected with the Seadogs of St. Dymphna) who work there.
The Constable's Corner Created by and for the RPFS constables, the site doesn't look to be very active. It is good info about them, however.
The Corsairs Home Page A Texas-based "Pirate" renfaire singing group, submitted by Beast for your approval.
Dogs in Doublets Great stage group of REALLY fun people, who work just about anywhere from Renfaires to Railfairs.
The Guild of St. Elizabeth Troupe of Nobility that we ran afoul of at Del Mar... I liked 'em, so I'm posting 'em. Thanks, all.
The Guild of St. George After splitting from REC, these re-enactors represent a wonderful addition to the 'circuit' of Guild Performers. As you'll see, this are a very dedicated group of Nobles.
The Guild of St. Michael The Military from the REC faires.Fun to play with if you know what to do.
Heather Alexander One of the founding members of Phoenyx, Heather Alexander is a long time 'rennie', playing guitar, fiddle and bodrahn. Her site sells her recordings plus gives information on her schedule.
Maidens of Mischief A group of Fools, all women, all fun, all the time! In all seriousness, a great performing guild of Fools.
The Merry Misfits of Doom An "Extreme Improv Troupe" performing at faires across the Western USA, specifically in California. Also, friends of many of us.
The Mongers of St. Swithin A fellow improvisation troupe from the REC Renaissance faires, and a bunch of darn fine people.
Oak, Ash and Thorn Yes, THE Oak, Ash and Thorn... They're back, and the group's now 21 years old - old enough to drink. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
The Poxy Boggards "The Drinking Group with a Singing Problem", and my new home! I'm "Lurch". C'mon out to RPFS and see the show!
The Saint Ives Historical Society At one time, this was only a group portraying the 'middle class' of REC's renfaires. Now, I'm impressed. This site looks like Ives is blossoming into a truly impressive organization.
Smokey Knott & The Bollweevils Gratuitous plug for a band that I (along with a few of my fellow guildmembers) used to be in.
Stinkeye Band of folk musicians based in Southern California. Great music! They'll be at the Southern CA REC faire as well as Santa Barbara faire in 2001.
Crime and Punishment Good essays on a few facets of the Elizabethan world, starting off with two on (you guessed it) crime & punishment.
Granuaile O'Malley Page A site of resources on everyone's favorite female Irish Pirate!
HACA Historical Armed Combat Association. One of our guildmembers sent this out. Interesting take on historic combat recreation.
The Maritime Park Association I agonized over where to put this one. For those not aware, this is the Hyde St. Pier (and other assorted activities) at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. They have history you can walk on with several vessels and displays, music in the form of a concert series and a shanty sing monthly, merchandise in the form of a decent gift store... Good place.
Tudor Women "Life of Women in Tudor England" Slightly pre-Ren, but nice and simply written page outlining the (to us) living hell that the average Ren woman would have been raised with and lived with.
The Directorie of Renaissance Faires A sizeable links directory for all things "Ren". Good information, though the site is very graphics intensive.
Kalani's Faire Page The 'faire' page of one of the better known California self-styled 'faire geeks'. Great links directory, plus information on one or two of the more obscure 'inside jokes' amongst a significant portion of the renfaire population.
Marijah's Bibliography of Renaissance & Medieval Europe Mostly a links clearinghouse from a back-East rennie.
Renfaire.com The "Renaissance Faire Homepage". Great site for real information about most aspects of the faire, including GREAT information on accent, costuming and the like.
The Rennie's Market I'm not quite sure WHAT is up with this site. It appears to be part link directory, part newsgroup hosting, part email server, part e-zine, and something about a paysite as well.
Ren World Another links directory. Also claims (as most such links pages do) to be the "world's largest faire directory."
The SCRIBE Network "The Renaissance Faire Information Clearing House". 'nuff said.
Bruce Olson's "Roots of Folk" I have a few personal differences with the site owner, but no-one can fault the research and resource the man's created.
The Chantey Cabin "The Homeport for all Your Maritime Music". Lyrics, plus they sell the CDs of several artists, as well as books...
Digital Tradition/Mudcat Cafe Possibly one of the best folk/blues resources on the web. HUGE database of lyrics, as well as a message forum for info queries.
Folk Music of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and America Sign on the door says "Tunes, Lyrics, Information, Historical Background and Tune Related Links". That's a lot of territory. Beware of loud MIDI file that loads on page...
The International Lyrics Server Claims 62,000 viewable lyrics from a database of over 130,000 songs. I'm still trying to work out how the remaining 68,000 songs could be in the database WITHOUT lyrics... Pop up ad on site, but it's easily disposed of.
International Shanty and Sea Song Association An organization dedicated to preserving shanties and seasongs... huge database, and apparently a support network for shantymen.
Lagniappe Sailing Website A site for the dedicated fan of "trailer sailing". I can't figure out how they'd get the suckers to float, let alone where you'd hang a sail. What? Oh... as in sailing when you drag the boat to the water on a trailer... *I* get it. Anyway, good collection of 'nautical' song lyrics.
Live 365 A collection of Net Radio stations, including a few shanty and traditional broadcasts.
The Old Time Herald Paid subscription, but archives are viewable for free. Good online music magazine primarily centered on 'old time' folk music.
Renradio 3 channels (at three connect speeds) of good RenMusic, with several local midwestern bands around where the site's owner is located as well as tons of other great stuff.
Shanties and Sailor Songs / Shantys und Seemannslieder A very extensive site, featuring songs of several languages, and a HUGE section on just shanties.
Smutty Songs, Dirty Ditties and Bawdy Ballads Truth in advertising. Don't say you weren't warned.
Camsco Music A great music distributor, specializing in Folk Music by Mail. Owned by the compiler of the Digital Tradition lyric database.
Celtic Rose A fine merchant at many events in California, this is the online site for Celtic Rose. The owner, a wonderful Friend of Dogs, has a great selection of many things Celt.
Faire Trade This is a site created by one of the Seadogs, where Faire participants can exchange goods, services and money.
Folk-Legacy Records, Inc. Another great Folk Music online distributor. Extensive catalog, tour information, and more!
Lark in the Morning Traditional instruments, both modern and not. Music to play on them. Tapes of people playing said music so you don't have to. They rock. Go there now.
Pendragon Costumes "Custom Leather Clothing for Men and Women". Pendragon are the makers of some of the finest leather bodices and jerkins you'll find at faire.
Woodenships Music: Sea Shanties & Maritime Music Online shop featuring some great shanties and shantymen.
The Gaelic Insult Generator Create your own Gaelic insults! Complete with phoenetic guide. "Go lí Monica Lewinsky do chuid calóga arbhair." {may Monica Lewinsky Lick your Cornflakes}
