My favourite trainers for getting muddy are black football trainers, with the studded 'Astro-Turf' soles. These trainers are made for football - and muddy football pitches - so it looks normal to walk around in a muddy pair.
For children these are really good for 'mudding' as they can easily be washed clean after a good 'mud' before going home, or before parents return home. And as the studded soles really hold the mud, you can walk around with a load of mud on your feet for a long time, until you find a nice clean carpet to walk on!
