** SOCIAL ACTION/TZEDEK ** This year I fell a little short in Tzedek programming. I spent a lot of time helping the Social Action Chair transition into her position, since she was a first year and new to the AJS Board. Therefore, a lot of our programming was smaller, such as tables and bake sales. Most of the people involved in such programming were already very involved in Hillel. However, I did help plan an Alternative Spring Break trip to North Carolina

Key Leaders: On the AJS Board, there is a UJC/Social Action Chair. Interestingly enough, the position ends up becoming a social action position, without much focus on UJC specifically.
Strategies for Success: It is important that you work with this chair to come up with short-term and long-term goals for the success of the position. Short term: smaller programs, trips, etc. Long-term: perhaps a group of students whose sole purpose is to promote social action/social justice issues on campus, including co-sponsoring with other campus organizations. I would like to see this group have a specific community service project that they do on a regular basis, such as a trip to a soup kitchen in Cincinnati or a mentoring role
