MUSIC REVIEW

The buzzwords are - 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi'. The words derived from the hit song of director David Dhawan's previous venture 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' (which incidentally was titled Mujhse Shaadi Karogi earlier) that starred Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor. David Dhawan reunites with Salman Khan [Judwaa, DHLJ, Biwi No.1] and Akshay Kumar [Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi] in this Sajid Nadiadwala production that has Priyanka Chopra as the central protagonist. After 'Andaaz', this is just the second movie for Priyanka where she plays a substantial role. After delivering a sub-average music in 'Garv', Sajid Wajid get another big break in this Nadiadwala Grandson's production while Jalees Sherwani writes the lyrics. Farah Khan, who is a hotshot director today after the runaway success of 'Main Hoon Naa', is at the choreography's chair. The trade is abuzz with the talks that with MSK, David Dhawan has got back into the groove and is back in the same form again that got him the distinction of eight consecutive hits!! A full-fledged comedy, MSK also boasts of right dosage of action that should prove to be a complete 'paisa vasool' for the audience. Read on to see if the music too proves to be an asset in this fun-filled ride.

'Rab Kare' is a frothy love song that is associated with the 'feel good' style of filmmaking. Check out especially for great looking Priyanka and another smart hairstyle for Salman Khan after his hairdo in 'Tere Naam'. The number is sung well by the hit-pair of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Sajid Wajid deliver a kind of song that was expected for such a feel good entertainer. This is the reason why the song sounds good in spite of the fact that it is nothing exceptional and doesn't boast of being different or path breaking.

The title song 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi' takes its cue from another hit song 'Dhadke Dil Baar' from 'Dulhan Hum Le Jaayenge'. Song arrangements are neither in the style of Sajid Wajid, Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar. They are completely a David Dhawan number and have his distinctive touch. This track sung by Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan is impressive from the word GO and is extremely foot tapping. All the three lead stars seem to be enjoying the song setup and the effect shows on screen. In total, a complete 'masala' track that is again not a league apart but does well for it's screen space.

Anu Malik is the guest composer for the track 'Jeene Ke Hai Chaar Din', which is written by Sameer and sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan. As the title of the song suggests, it is about a guy who wants to live life to the fullest [a number of songs based on this theme are being composed these days]. Sonu Nigam gets in the skin of the character and is typically full of energy. A heavy-duty rhythmic number, it should be a song set either on the beach, street or a dance floor. Song also has an undercurrent of Spanish music and is aimed at the youth. Sunidhi Chauhan is credited as a co-singer but just makes a fleeting appearance intermediately. An average number, it won't be remembered for weeks after the movie's run is through and is definitely not a candidate for an award's ceremony. But all said and done, it maintains the tempo of the album so far where the pace doesn't slacken.

 Album continues in the same vein when the bhangra track 'Aaja Soniya' arrives. A conventional romantic 'mauj masti' kind bhangra song between a boy and a girl where the boy is professing his love for the girl, at places it is also laced with English pop. While Sonu Nigam changes his pitch while being more broad throated here, Alka Yagnik is as usual. An average song that also appears as a remix [actually there is not much that differentiates between the original and the remix], at this juncture the listener starts craving for something new, as the album is already half way through.

Well, that doesn't happen as we get to hear yet another version of 'Dupatta' - this time a red one. Sajid Wajid invade the sacred territory of Himesh Reshamiyya who has the distinction of having composed the maximum number of songs about the glory of 'Dupatta' in the recent times. 'Laal Dupatta' carries on the tradition and is thankfully quite sober and makes for a quite listening. Arun Bhairav is simple in his writing while Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik prove yet again that how they can take a routine number to a different level by their experienced singing. Another track that is not going to take box office by storm but still doesn't really make you turn the other way.

Sukhwinder Singh does his riprap rig once again with 'Kar Doon Kamaal' that is routine and fails to rise above a very average level. If the makers thought that they had another 'Lagan Lagi ' (Tere Naam) in hand, then they are mistaken as the song just doesn't have enough spark to get it going beyond certain point. Sunidhi Chauhan too is plain average and the lyrics are on the oft-beaten track. In sum, a song that may be liked by Salman Khan's fans [provided the number is picturized on him], but nothing more than that.

After all this 'hungama', 'mauj masti' and 'song'n'dance', the album takes a serious turn towards the end (as is the narrative in the movies as well) with 'Lahoo Banke Aansoon'. The number is essentially a bit slower version of 'Rab Kare' and not exactly a word-by-word sad version of the original. A sad song that seems to be set for the pre-climax, it is sung by Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Shabab Sabri. Completely situational, it's not a number that can carry off the album by itself and just proves to be gap filler. There is not much chance that people may make beelines for just this one.

In sum, the album starts on a promising note, especially with the title track and 'Rab Kare', but later turns out to be an average fair mainly with the follow up songs. Though in the beginning, one doesn't mind the routine flow of the album, as it is at least foot tapping and entertaining, the same predictable flow becomes the undoing factor for MSK that promised much but delivered just about OK. Buy it if a pacy yet conventional ride of a Bollywood musical score excites you or if you are a Salman/Akshay/Priyanka fan.
