Are
you Studying English ? Are you confident with your English proficiency
? Or are you sometimes (or always) afraid of speaking English.....?
Some of
you are perhaps native English speakers, and you are very lucky that
your mother tongue is chosen as one of the official languages worldwide.
However, I have ever heard "English is not spoken globally, but
BROKEN-ENGLISH is spoken all over the world." Wow, I think this
is quite true, and at the same time, encourage non-native English speakers
like us very much.
Well, I don't appreciate the phrase BROKEN-ENGLISH
, because who can say which type of English is complete or BROKEN,
however if we consider this truth positively, we could be
more confident to use English in our daily life so that we could communicate
with each other more freely.
My son (a 5 year-old Japanese) lately has much interest in using English.
He watches "Cartoon Network in English" on T.V., has met quite
a few non-Japanese thanks to my hubby's and my own occupation, has visited
a few foreign countries with us. He now has appetite to speak English,
and actually tries it without any hesitation even though his vocabulary
is very little. It is indeed amazing to see children who are born to
be brave to challenge new things, never be afraid of making mistakes.
You know, making mistakes is just one step to go ahead for them so I
think we adults have to learn a lot from them.
I admit
the hard work of studying languanges, I have studied both English and
Spanish for a long time and it seems it is an endless task.
I teach
English, and I have realized that many people are lack in confidence,
because I know my students know much much more than my son. It is only
a matter of braveness.
We don't
need to speak English like a native English speaker, do we ? We can
speak our English proudly (and carefully in order not to creat unnecessary
misunderstandings and conflicts), the most important thing is to communicate
with each other ! (The priority is not the perfection of your English
itself.)
One of my friends from the Papua New
Guinea once taught me some of HIS English. I really loved it so
let me introduce you some expressions.
