Chapter 7-

Ravena stood in the middle of the hectic confusion, seemingly, Rafe had thought it would be better to come back later and focus on the treasures of Hamunaptra. Her heart sank when she heard about this new piece of information. Apparently, Rafe had learned from one of his sources about the treasures there. She prayed in her heart that they would avoid accidentally raising Imhotep. Unfortunately, Mr. Steinburger was forcing her to come for “security reasons”. Ravena was fed up. Sadly, there was nothing she could do about it. Her only hope was that Rick had noticed she was gone and was trying to find her.

She went ahead and sat down in the car. She rested her elbow on the side (it was a car without a top) and placed her head on her fist. For some strange reason, all she could think about was that mysterious Medjai. God, how she wanted to look into those deep and endless eyes again. As she fantasized, she didn’t notice the sun beating on her head or Rafe and his friend, Max, running towards the car.

“We must hurry; we will only see the city of the dead at sundown,” screamed Rafe at the soldier driving the car.

They hopped in beside Ravena and the car sped with life. She felt sand stinging her eyes as the car went faster and faster. Boy, the Nazis were unbelievably greedy to get to the riches.

After a short while of maniac driving, they were at the location Majil had told them to go. All they had to do was wait. And they waited and waited. Rafe and Max were undeniably inpatient. But then it came like a gorgeous sunset. It seemed like a mirage. But they knew it was real. The car roared towards it....

Ravena watched in mock desperation at the City of the Dead as everyone else (including 50 workers and soldiers) set up camps in front of the buildings. Too think that Rick and Evy were here only about seven years ago. Of course the end of the world nearly came along with them. Rafe wasted no time in searching for the fortune. He had 25 workers already inside of the tombs looking for bits and pieces of clues to lead them to the Pharaoh's wealth. She sat down on a slab of rock that was sticking out and placed her chin in her palms. Again she thought about that exotic man. Suddenly, out of nowhere, voices cried out within the tomb. Dozens of workers came piling out carrying what seemed to be a tombstone. They screamed out excitedly in Arabic as if they found gold. Rafe was not pleased.

“What is this?! This is not the treasure! Get back to work!”.

But then one of the workers pointed out that this might be a clue to the wealth. Rafe stood up and looked around,

“Can anyone here read ancient hieroglyphics?!”.

Ravena looked away quickly and absently chewed on one of her fingernails, hoping they weren’t going to look at her. Rafe saw her and instantly knew she could read them. He smirked and slowly lifted a finger, motioning for her to come over. The woman sighed, and stood up tiredly. She slowly walked her away over to where the tombstone was and looked at it. She sadly read aloud...

“He who is sacrificed in the black pool of death, will have aroused the dark creature of immortality, a dark force of pain and cruelty.”

Everyone stood uncomfortable around it trying to decipher what the hell that meant. Suddenly, a wind blew in from the north. The workers all murmured nervously. Rafe dismissed everyone with a gesture of his hand and pretty soon everyone noticed that dusk was consuming the blue bowl of sky each second. Ravena stifled a yawn and went to her tent.

Inside her tent, she changed into her silk white slip and stretched. She was so unbelievably tired after a hard long day of chaos. She lay down on her stomach on top of the bedroll and her halo of angelic hair spread all around her arms. She rested her head on her arms until a guard came in and tied one of her hands to a post in the ground (although she was still lying down). She was about to fall asleep when suddenly she heard a scream...
