Parks/Playgrounds

at Pelican Plaza, The Entrance (see Pelican Feeding under other activities). This is quite a new and large play structure built with a sea/ocean theme. Built in the shape of a ship there's lots to climb, a slide, Captain's wheel and more. There's a water fountain area nearby that just invites the kids to jump in and play! Great during summer. Adventure Parks

Old Sydney Town, Pacific Highway Gosford. - Phone: 4340 1104. Reconstructed town from the 18th Century. Actors in peroid costume re-enact parades, flogging, a wedding, etc etc. Various establishments available for food - teashop, kiosk etc. Lots of school groups go through here.

Indoor Activities

Amaze 'N' Play at Erina, Erina Green Shopping Complex, Shop C2, 24 Karalta Road - Phone: 02 4367 3030. Indoor playground with tunnels, slides, mirror maze, rope bridge & more. Separate area for the littlies and giant ball pool. Cafe with cafe prices for parents to wait, with kids menu. Cost: Crawlers to 2yrs $4.00, Children 2 & over $6.50 for unlimited hours. They also cater for parties with the cost per child ranging from $8.50 to $12.50, plus extras of $20 for a party host, helium balloons $1.50 each, and birthday cakes from $10.00 to $16.00 - 8 children minimum for parties. Child-friendly Restaurants & Cafes

The Fragrant Cafe at the Fragrant Garden at Erina, Portsmouth road, just off Terrigal Drive Cafe's Opening hours are from 9.30am to late afternoon.. This cafe has a beautiful outdoor seating area with lots of room for prams. There's also a little playground just next to it with a cubby house and more. Prices here are reasonable, for example a Devonshire Tea or Coffee (served with scones) is $5 which makes for a great morning out. If you have lunch here, the menu has a kids menu too. Nature & Animals

Australian Reptile Park, Gosford, Pacific Highway, Somersby - Phone 02 4340 1022. You can see the sign from the freeway - can't miss it - Near Old Sydney Town. Open daily. More than just reptiles it has koalas, dingles and more. Phone for more info - they have talks and feeding times.

The Forest of Tranquillity Wildlife Sancturary at Ourimbah, Ourimbah Creek Road - Phone 02 4362 1885. Open daily during school and public holidays from 10am to 5pm, other times from Wednesday to Sunday. This sanctury has a recorded 126 different species of Australian Native Birds, which they have Wallaby & Bird Feeding each opening day. Also 5km easy walks, Covered picnic areas with BBQ (gas). Catering and Function Centre available for Weddings & Parties. October has the Twilight Magic Festival during the evenings.

Other Activities

The Fragrant Garden at Erina, Portsmouth road, just off Terrigal Drive - Phone 02 4382 2160 or 02 4367 7322. This is more than just a shop and a plant nursery, they do everything here!!! Especially for the kids is Storytelling by the Fairy Godmother or her Fairy Friends held in the Garden Cafe every Tuesday (if fair weather) at 10.30am at a cost of $7 per child which includes a light morning tea. Special Holday Programmes are available during the school holidays from Monday to Friday - to book. Birthday Parties are also available. Hosted by the Fairy Godmother or her Fairy Friends with a story in the Fairy Dell, a walk in the gardens, feeding the fish and a picnic in the Summer House. Cost $12 per child with a minimum of 10 children. Phone to book. The Fragrant Garden has beautiful gardens to wander thru with little paths and a bridge; little statues & figurines are placed carefully blending beautifully. The Mud Brick Galleryhas gorgeous gifts (books, clothing, children's fairy costumes and toys etc) to suit any occassion along with potpourri, oils and perfumes with the Fragrant Garden's logo. Mail order available too. The Plant Nursery placed just outside the gallery has many plants of the olde-worlde ambience (like back at your grandmother's garden!) Talks & tours are available by arrangment. We even saw them setting up for a wedding when we'd dropped by! Well worth a drop in and visit!!! Pelican Feeding at The Entrance. Every day at 3.30pm at Pelican Plaza at the Waterfront - phone 02 4333 5377 This draws quite a large crowd and is so amazing! They even let some of the public throw the fish to the pelicans to catch. Pelican Plaza also has a children's playground and a water fountain. Reviewed by Bettibeetle 29/4/2000
