Australian Museum, Sydney CBD, 6 College Street - Phone 9320 6000. More than the usual museum stuff it has a special area for younger children called Kid's Island - set up for under 5's. Kid's Island is open from 10-3 each day. Cafe also at museum.

Playgroups

Cook & Phillip Centre, at the Swimming Centre on College Street, adjacent to St Mary's Cathedral, opposite Hyde Park North. Phone Rebecca Clark, the co-ordinator, on 9326 0444. Held Thursday and Friday mornings from 9am to 12 noon during school terms only. Cost is $2 each visit, which includes the craft (eg: painting, playdough, collage sticking etc). The craft is indoors, and there are lots of toys outside and water play on fine days. This centre has a coffee shop and leisure pool. Reviewed by Alice & Tom 20/4/2000
