CT70HK2 Restoration Page

This is what I bought, A Lime Green , 1972 CT70HK2. The "H" designates 4 speed transmission with hand clutch "especially for the men". It is pretty complete, save for the missing kick statrt lever. It has a couple of small dents, a few rusty areas and the speedometer is broken, but overall a good project bike. At least the previous owner used black duct tape for the seat.

This is how it looked Sunday night before I went to bed. Mind you, I didn't wake up until 2:00 PM after the 11 hour drive that got us home at 6:00am. The frame is stripped of all components except the wheels and suspension. All of the parts were inspected, briefly, then put into a storage box. I used chemical stripper to remove paint from the flat frame, mostly because I couln't find any sand paper.

MR Bojangles brought a Blue Jay into the garage to snack on while he watched me work.

The end of Day 2 and not a lot of progress. Wet sanding is slow but effective. I also used a wire wheel to remove paint from "tricky" areas.

I took these pictures with the Mattel Barbie Digital Camera that I gave my niece for Christmas. Not exactly what I expected, but close. If made any larger, the pictures are hard to make out. The first picture shows even MORE stripped paint (more fun than watching it dry). The second shows the engine. I wish that I had started the engine before I took it out of the frame to check the transmission. It appears to be perfect aside from worn timing chain guides. I suspect that this condition is a result of improper timing chain tesion. I will mic-out the piston and cylinder before installing the engine, and probably install new rings, But I doubt that I will split the engine cases. Next we see Evel Knievel riding with Barbie. He probably just car-jacked her. Watch those arms Barbie, Evel may have a bat. This is one of the many fascinating things you can do with the Barbie digital camera and software.
