Ambrose is finding it difficult to get an opportunity to talk to Niamh about their relationship difficulties, and Niamh’s father Brian suspects that there is something going on between Niamh and Sean Dillon. Niamh feels she is in a stale relationship point with Ambrose at the moment and she wonders what things would be like if she had made different decisions, when she talks with Sean over this, she finds  the way he looks at her makes her excited and she like the feeling she has when she is around him. After their talk Sean drives her home as it is starting to rain heavily, when he drops her at the pub, Ambrose opens the door and with the rain hailing down he looks out and thinks he sees Sean and Niamh embraced together in Sean's truck, but really Sean had leaned across to lift the handle on the door. On her arrival Ambrose confronts her of having an affair. Niamh does admit to Ambrose that she is bored with him never changing, always loving her and sticking by her side constantly and that they are not moving forward. Ambrose is furious and storms out into the rain to Sean Dillons house to confront him face to face.

The storm is getting worse and while Sean and Emma are having a disagreement about her moving to London for college, Emma goes upstairs annoyed and a the sme time the storm causes a tree to come crashing through the roof and smashing the window in Emma's room just missing her by inches.  Sean screams up to her, grabs her and hugs her glad she is not hurt and knows he will be lost without her when she goes away. Sean wonders that if the wrecked farmhouse  is a sign that he shouldn’t be back in Ballykissangel. The next morning the town faces the after effect of the storm. Sean starts to plan to leave Ballykissangel and go to London with Emma, but Emma doesn’t want him to give up on his dreams and she convinces him to stay. The town rally around to help Sean fix up the farmhouse again, and they throw a big bonfire that evening in the field beside the house with the remains of the tree. Niamh admits to Siobhan that she is flattered by Sean taking an interest in her and she goes to the bonfire that evening to join in with the fun. Ambrose turns up later on at the bonfire, Niamh doesn’t even notice him there, as she is busy dancing around the fire with Sean, laughing and enjoying herself. Ambrose knows in his heart that his suspicions are true and that his marriage is over. He walks away with his head hanging low as the season ends.
