DAVE WANG (GIVING) (EEG) (JAN00)
|
Dave Wang (or Wang Jie) has
come back with a bang. Not only has he signed on a new
label and released this brand new album "Giving", this
new release has also achieved platinum sales status in Hong Kong
(note : it debuted at number two in the Hong Kong IFPI album
charts). He is also set to star in a new TVB television
serial. This is a
double CD album which has a total of nineteen tracks which
contain a mix of new works and newly-interpreted old hits.
The latter include the duet "Still Have" (or Hai You)
sung with Joey Yung (or Rong Zhu Er) (note : this Cantonese duet
was originally sung with Sandy Lam), "Who Understands The
Wanderer's Heart" (or Shui Ming Lang Zi Xin) which has been
revamped as a duet sung with Bondy Chiu (or Zhao Xue Er),
"No Regrets In This Life" (or Jin Sheng Wu Hui) and
"Part Sadness, Part Passion" (or Ji Fen Shang Xin Ji
Fen Chi Xin). The
first single from the release is the new ballad track "Heart
Addicted".

JACKY CHEUNG (15) (UNIVERSAL
MUSIC) (JAN00)
|
I've followed Jacky Cheung's
music career path from the very beginning. Way back in
1985, I was already blown away by his first album
"Smile". Fifteen years have passed and today
he's still the reigning Heavenly King of pop (although he has
made known his reluctance to be tagged with the title
henceforth). Aptly
titled "15", this latest two-CD album chronicles the
hits that he has amassed over the fifteen-year-long
period. The
first CD contains fifteen of his hot favourites and the more
important thing is that he has re-sung all the re-arranged
songs here
(refer below for the complete song listing in Big5 Chinese). The
second CD has two brand new karaoke-friendly ballads "Let You Fly" and
"Puzzling". It also contains twelve other tracks
which Jacky has recorded in the past but have never been
included in his own solo albums before (refer below for the
complete song listing in Big5 Chinese). Sounds
like a must-get item for all his fans.

ANDY HUI (BELIEVE IN LOVE)
(EAST ENTERTAINMENT) (JAN00)
|
Having just received numerous
awards in the HK end-of-year music award shows (including the
Best Male Singer Award from one of the HK radio stations and the
TVB Jade Solid Gold Top Ten Song Award for his hit "Faith
With Heart" (or Zheng Xin Zheng Yi)), Andy has finally
released a brand new album (note : his last offering was the
best-selling compilation "End
Of Century Collection" ). Produced
by long-time music collaborator Mark Lui, the album contains a
total of twelve tracks. The first single is the title
track "Believe In Love" which is a soaring ballad
composed by Mark Lui. The second single is "Direct
Feelings" which also has a bonus remix version.
Andy's cover of Alan Tam's hit "Who Can Change" (or
Shui Ke Gai Bian) is enclosed here too (note : the cover song is
originally included in Alan Tam's tribute album "Who
Can Change").
There are also two Cantonese
covers of Andy's recent Mandarin songs which are contained in
his latest Taiwan release "We
Want Happiness" : "Leaving The Scene Of Lost
Love" is the cover of "You Decide" (or Ni Jue
Ding Jiu Hao) while "The Days Without Love" is the
Cantonese version of "We Want Happiness" (or Wo Men
Dou Yao Xing Fu).

GRASSHOPPER (EPISODE)
(UNIVERSAL MUSIC) (DEC99)
|
Since leaving Rock Records,
Grasshopper (or Cao Meng) has rejoined their old record company
Universal Music (formerly Philips) and come out with a new
release which shows mug shots of them on cover. This
is an EP containing four tracks. The interesting thing is
that they did not sing together this time round, there's three
solo songs plus one duet. The
two brothers each sing a solo track : Cai Yi Jie with
"Wounded All Over" and "Another Fame" by Cai
Yi Zhi. The
remaining two numbers feature the other member Su Zhi Wei.
Not only does he perform a song "Childhood Times" by
himself, he also gets to sing a duet "Love Carefully"
with his wife ex-singer Winnie Lau (or Liu Xiao Hui). The
EP comes with a bonus VCD which contains the music videos for
"Wounded All Over" and "Childhood Times".

AARON KWOK (NEW OLD HURRAY
COLLECTION) (WARNER MUSIC) (DEC99)
|
Another collection album, this
time from Heavenly King Aaron Kwok (or Guo Fu
Cheng). Containing
a total of sixteen songs, it includes three brand new tracks :
"New Hurray", "Who Can Replace You" and
"First", the latter being the main theme-song for his
upcoming Chinese New Year action movie "Year 2000"
co-starring Daniel Wu and Singapore's James Lye and Phyllis Quek. The
song "New Hurray" also contains a so-called CDK
technology which allows you to use the CD to watch its MTV on
computer. The
remaining thirteen collection songs contain hits such as
"The Call Of Love" (or Ai De Hu Huan), "Sing This
Song" (or Chang Zhe Ge), the Eddie Ng's composition
"Happy Christmas In The Warfield" (or Zhan Chang Shang
De Kuai Le Shen Dan), "Code In The Wind" (or Feng Li
Mi Ma), the theme-song "Jing Bian" for his box-office
movie "The Storm Riders" (or Feng Yun) and
"Listen To The Wind Song" (or Ting Feng De Ge). The
CD comes bundled with a bonus VCD which contains the MTV for the
new track "First" as well as a whopping sixty-minute
long full version of a music special which was aired on TVB
during the period when Aaron released his previous album "Dream
Of Fantasy Island". Finally
fans can also expect to receive a free Y2K calendar featuring
twelve pages of Aaron Kwok when they buy the collection album.

RONALD CHENG (ONE MORE TIME)
(UNIVERSAL MUSIC) (DEC99)
|
Talk about timing : just when
Ronald Cheng is finally releasing his brand new Cantonese album
after a one year absence, news about his break-up with Miriam
Yeung have surfaced plus Miriam is also coming out with her new
work "Story
Of Winter" around the same period - poor guys.
Let's hope both parties' fans will concentrate more on their
music rather than on their private lives (Note : Ronald has also
just released his very first Mandarin compilation album "Love
You Collection" in
Taiwan). There
are eleven tracks here. The first single "Fine Day,
Overcast Day, Rainy Day" is an acoustic ballad which is the
supporting theme-song for a forthcoming TVB serial "The Sky
Is The Limit" (or Yuan Fen Wu Bian Jie) starring Maggie Zhang Ke
Yi. Ronald also has a supporting role in this
series. The
serial's main theme-song of the same name is also included in
the album.

MIRIAM YEUNG (STORY OF WINTER)
(CAPITAL ARTISTS) (DEC99)
|
Miriam Yeung (or Yang Qian Hua)
has come out with a new Cantonese album within half a year (note
: her last offering "Summer
Story" was released in July 99). There are
altogether ten tracks which include the first single "Ice
Tip". The second single is a track called "The
Last Song". She also sang a cover of Priscilla Chan's
(or Chen Hui Xian) evergreen hit "Thousand Goodbye
Songs" (or Qian Qian Que Ge). However
the release date may not be entirely appropriate this time round
as she has reportedly just broken up with Ronald Cheng and
therefore I expect that more press attention will be given to
her love affairs rather than to her new work (note :
coincidentally, Ronald is also releasing his new Cantonese album
"One
More Time" around the same time). Let's hope
everyone will give the poor gal a break and focus more on her
music.

NICHOLAS TSE (MOST WANTED) (FITTO) (DEC99)
|
This is a new song +
compilation album from the very popular Nicholas Tse (or Xie
Ting Feng). Five
new tracks are enclosed, including a song called "Aftermath
Of Love" which is the main theme-song for the movie
"Half Cigarette" (for which he is nominated for Best
Actor in the recent Taiwan Golden Horse Awards). There
are twelve collection hits here which are taken from his
previous three Cantonese albums and two EPs and they include
"Voices Of The End Of Century" (or Mo Shi Ji De Hu
Sheng), "Must Go" (or Fei Zou Bu Ke), "Bad
Habit" (or Huai Xi Guan) and "Silent Voice" (or
Wu Sheng Fang You Sheng). The
limited-edition CD comes bundled with a bonus VCD which contains
the music video for "Aftermath Of Love" as well as a
specially designed necklace.

HACKEN LEE (ONE YEAR OR MORE)
(UNIVERSAL MUSIC) (DEC99)
|
Hacken Lee (or Li Ke Qin) has
re-joined his former record company Universal Music (note : he
has just left BMG Music) and come out with this new release
"One Year Or More". It
is essentially a new song + cover selection album. There
are three brand new songs, namely, the first single "Cherry
Blossom", "Stay For One More Minute" and
"Sing A Cool Song Tonite". Co-written by Hacken
Lee, "Cherry Blossom" has stirred up copyright trouble
in that the song's melody was accused of copying a 1997 Thai
song sung by a Thai group LoSo. The
remaining eight tracks are new covers of his own past hits, that
is, he has given his old songs a new rendition. These
selected hits include "Deep Deep Deep" (or Shen Shen
Shen), "Blue Moon" (or Lan Yue Liang), "Unchanged
Life" (or Yi Sheng Bu Bian) and "Red Day" (or
Hong Ri), the latter being re-sung as a duet with Alan Tam.

Cantonese cover of an original Japanese song and "Proof In
Love Break-Up". As
for the collection, it contains sixteen of her hits ranging from
1995 to 1999 such as "Supporting Theme Song" (there's
also a bonus acoustic version included) (or Cha Qu), "Pet"

MUSIC) (DEC99)
|
This is Ekin Cheng's (or Zheng
Yi Jian) brand new Cantonese album. Originally scheduled
for a November release, it has been pushed forward to December
due to his love triangle entanglement news involving Gigi Leung
and Maggie Chow (or Shao Mei Qi). Altogether
there are ten tracks, including three theme songs for his
upcoming movie "The Legend Of Speed" co-starring
Cecilia Cheung and veteran actor Ke Shou Liang. These
three tracks are "Speed" which is the main theme-song
and the supporting theme-numbers "You & Me" and
"No Way To Go". The
album CD comes with a bonus AVCD which contains quite a few
stuff : the music videos of "Speed", "You &
Me" & "No Way To Go"; a special footage of

pieces.

KELLY CHAN (LOVE COLOUR) (EAST
ENTERTAINMENT) (DEC99)
|
This is a new song + old hit
collection from Kelly Chan (or Chen Hui Lin). There are
three new songs, including the title track "Love Colour"
which is the theme-song for the Epson Printer ad in Hong Kong,
Unreal Innocence and a duet with producer Mark Lui "Love
All Over". The fourteen compilation hits are mostly
taken from her previous three albums - "Keep On Loving
Me" (songs include a new Autumn version of "I Dare To
Love" and the duet with Ronald Chang "It's All Your
Fault" which is the cover of Phil Chang's Mandarin hit
"Moon's Fault"), "True Feeling" (songs
